What is a third degree pentagram?

And while I'm at it, what is the difference between a penticle and a pentagram? I thought a pentagram was just a penticle carved into a ceremonial bowl. Now I feel confused and kind of stupid.

Well said Imagine!! That is my understanding of the difference also. The pentagram is the five pointed star design itself whereas the pentacle is an actual thing. You can find a pentagram inside of an apple if you cut it sideways....you can wear a pentacle as a necklace. But people do not always know the difference and using either word for the same thing is always acceptable :)

Also I believe some people define a difference where the pentagram is just the five pointed star whereas the pentacle is a five pointed star surrounded by a circle that represents unity of all things :)

i was always told a pentagram was point down....whereas a pentacle was point up...(with a circle)

but yes...im very very new to this so im probably very very wrong.....but living with a satanist...i know we have pentagrams everywhere....

That would be an inverted pentagram or pentacle. Usually the point is up to represent the spirit or mind or the divine.

It does not always have an "evil" connotation with the point down as the media loves to portray. When the point is down it means....I think....that the divine is not above the person, but IS the person and all things earthy and of the flesh which is what many Satanists believe. Please correct me if I am wrong since you are living with a Satanist yourself. Also, an inverted pentacle also represents a second or third degree Wiccan (or other traditional path) initiate.
