ok, this was just so unbelievably sweet, i must share:

Sylvia *LOVES* Tori. i mean, she really thinks Tori hung the moon, and she listens to her almost every night while she's falling alseep. she's heard every album, but her favorite is Under The Pink--she's probably listened to it more than me!--so that's the one she's most familiar with.

last night we were hanging out, watching tv, and she asked if we could watch a Tori video. usually we watch concert bootlegs, but i figured we could watch something different and pulled out the LE home video, which she had never seen. my LE cd is old and kinda battered so i almost never get it out, and she doesn't really know the songs on that album.

so i pop it in, and the SATY video comes on. i tell her about how it was the first Tori song i ever heard and that it's one of my favorites, and that i think she'll really like it. about 2/3 of the way through the song, i hear her sniffling and realize she crying! i was like "oh sweetie, what wrong? do you want me to turn this off?" and she says "no, please don't turn it off! it's just that...this song...it's SO pretty...and Tori looks so beautiful! please, will you rewind it so we can watch it again?" i nearly burst into tears myself!

that was the first time she's ever had such a strong reaction to music. i felt a little bad that she was crying, but i also thought it was really lovely in a way, that she was so moved. listening to Tori together has become somewhat of a bonding experience for us, something special the two of us can share. it's made for some really wonderful "mommy/daughter" moments! :)

so do you guys have anything special like that, that you share with your kids? something you share that's helped you become closer?

My child (when i have/adopt some) will probably be that way.

Tori has made such an impact on my life, she did what no therapist or medication could do for me. She made me happy to be me and to be female. she saved me from myself.

and i would like my child to know and hopefully appericate that i am here today cause of Tori.

i am a cat.

Wonderful post... :)

I would give anything to have had that kind of bonding experience with my own mom...

she's 5 1/2, swiftly closing in on 6...

she's always been emotional--not in a depressive way or a hysterical way ;)--but, you know, she's my sensitive little pisces girl. she cries every time we watch The Last Unicorn, and once she cried watching my sister dance, because "her dancing was so pretty". i was the same way at that age. :p

she was a bit upset with me last night, because i told her she couldn't go to a Tori concert with me this year (i still think she's too young). but we danced around like crazy to Raspberry Swirl, and that cheered her up!

What a beautiful story. My daughter is 4yrs old and she loves Tori also. She knows several of her songs by heart and she and I dance to Space Dog occasionally. She tells me she wants to be a singer on a piano when she grows up. I am so glad to have Tori as an example to my child of what real music is. I honestly think familiarizing a child with this kind of awesome music/musician at a young age will help them to realize their potential and give them a greater ability to discriminate from real talent and all the mass marketed junk out there. Your story really touched my heart. How sweet.:f
