View Full Version : Cheapo must-haves
Yeah so the 'worst stuff' thread inspired me to talk about cheap make-up that is good - surely such items exist!
Give your reviews of cheaper (i.e. anything that's not MAC, Stila or such, that is stuff you can buy in regular stores) make-up items you like!
a Maybelline lipstick (can't remember which type) in Sunset Pink is very moisturising and stays put on me. The shade is nice if you like brown make-up - brownish pink and it's a bit glossy.
I have a Revlon four creme e/s palette in Pink Petals - it's got three pink shades and one purple. It's quite nice if you like creme eyeshadow! I've used the most pastel one of the pinks for a luminous effect.
I also have an Isadora (a Swedish brand I think) brow pen that has a brush in the other end - I bought it when I had blown like 70 euros/dollars on Sisley make-up (and gotten only an e/s, gloss and liner! Sisley is so fucking expensive), and was feeling especially cheap, but ended up loving and using the pen every time I put on make-up!
L'Oreal has a lot of good stuff - Glam Shine is great, and Blush Délicieux in Rosewood I use often (smells nice and just the right shade for me).
Nivea Aroma Touch blush in Sensual Cassis is good when I want a purple/burgundy type of style - it's very sheer and it, too, smells interesting.
And if there's one brand I swear by it's Finnish Lumene - they're reasonably priced and very good quality, especially the skin care, but the make-up's nice too.

Yeah, Isadora is nice. I have the eyebrow pen too, and I really like it. Perfect shade for me. Their glosses are pretty good too-- especially the one called Express Star Gloss. Very sparkly, mmm.

I thought of something else-- Nivea Visage Refreshing Water Cleansing Gel and Nivea Visage Gentle Face Scrub. My face is producing much less oil since I started using these. I <3 them.

Jane's Barely There lipsticks. I have Just Barely (light, shimmery pink), and Perfectly Peach which is très fantastique! I plan to collect them all like fucking pokemon.
Jane's regular lipsticks are great too, they're flavored and taste so yummy.
Ditto on the shadows as well
Sonia Kashuk's lip palette in Pinks. Really great selection of 8 lipsticks. There's only one I don't really wear because it's too dark. Also comes with gloss. $14 (I think, can't remember) in all and comes in a really cute mirrored case similar to UD's face cases.

I swear by Maybelline Shine Free as the best powder for me. And L'Oreal's Lash Out is my mascara..... I've got it down to a science now: those are my staples, along with MAC StudioFix base, Urban Decay eyeshadows, the Body Shop blush, and whatever on my lips.... I have more lip products than I really need...... scratch that, I'm a woman, that could never be true.....

MaxFactor 2000 calories mascara. definite must-have.
i really like Cover Girl Creme to Powder Foundation..normally i dont like foundation, much less Cover Girl, but i got hooked it this and love it.
all the Bonne Bell lipglosses. so yummy.
i also really like Wet Shine Diamonds Lipstick..the reds are killer.

I use the one called Cashmere-- it's a blonde/brown shade. I think it's the palest one they've got.

Lips:
Maybelline Wet Shine - great, feels like it's barely there, and stays very moist - I have Gold Beam, which is a nice bronze-ish, shimmery color, and very sheer. I also have Sweet Sorbet, kind of in between taupe and mauve.
Loreal Shine Delice & So Delice - I don't really see the difference between the two. I like them most of all because they taste good...fruity...and they're named after fruits/sweets/foods. I have both Berry Bronze and Gingerbread.
Loreal Glass Shine - awesome lip gloss...extremely wet look and nice amount of color. I have Raisin Reflection & Taupe Luster.
Eyes:
I usually wear "barely there" colors in nudes & browns.
Revlon Illuminance Creme Shadow - I never used creme shadow before. I like it! I have it in "Not Just Nudes".
I like Revlon's Wet/Dry Shadow. It goes on very nicely.
I really do not like Maybelline's eyeshadows...their texture or something makes them really difficult to apply and get the same color you see in the pallette. I don't know, it's hard to describe, really.
Nails:
I really am partial to Maybelline's polishes, the fast-drying ones. They last a long time, and do dry quick. They are not thick, like some other brands.

I completely know what you mean. Maybelline has THE WORST eyeshadows. It's like rubbing ash on your eyelids.
I only wear "cheapo" makeup. I just don't have the budget to spend $15 on a single eyeshadow from MAC. I'm very partial to L'Oreal. All of their products have been excellent in my experience. I really want to try their Glass Shine lip gloss but it looks a little too extreme for me.

As for Glass Shine, if it's the major shine + lots of color that you think would be too much, get a very neutral, lighter shade, so it's more shine than bright color. Taupe Luster is a good choice for the more understated look. Something like the Raisin Reflection has a lot more color (it's just about as dark as I get for lipsticks...I don't look in really dark stuff), so it's more "flashy"...I don't wear it as much.

L'oreal colour juice gets my vote, as does Jane eyeshadows, and lipsmackers.

I really like Curel lotion and Cover Girl Super Thick Lash Mascara. The Curel is perfect for dry winter skin and the thick lash gives me the best lashes without any smudging. Ever.

L'Oreal Lash Out
Jane shadows and Barely There lipsticks (I have the peach one too!)
Rimmel liners, nailpolishes, foundation
Maybelline Wear N Go Lipstick. Has a nice formula that doesn't dry out my lips. I have Chesnut, Iced Coffee and Raspberry
Maybelline 3-in-1 stick in Ivory. I'm not a huge fan of foundation, but this one is easy to use and works well for me.
