this was posted on Makeupalley this morning. One of the members retouched the untouched photo of J. Lo, and turned her into a superstar instead of mortal human. So for all of us who wonder how Jen maintains such perfectly luminous skin I guess this is our answer. Discuss.
ps: I'm sorry the photos are so big, I don't know how to make them smaller. [post14]

I think it's really, really sad that this is the way it is. I don't think I can even begin to express how sad it is.

Impressive as *this* is, have you ever compared promo/press photos of Madonna with photos of her taken by the paparazzi when out and about in London with no make-up? Different person entirely. The woman in the park looks like the plain mother of Madonna TM.

I'm aware that the following is disrespectful and demeaning and all that. There are more at the referring site, by the way ;)

And I personally think Madonna looks better without make-up in that last photo.

oh my god! i do love those eyelashes.
i'm afraid to put glue on my eyes though, you know?
and i will admit, i live for those "no makeup" pictures of celebs. i don't know why.

Glue schmue...if you can dye them with dye containing hydrogen peroxide you can glue them!
I always admired J-Lo for what I thought was her fabulous skin...now I know different although she is still gorgeous without touch-ups!

what I love is that the skin under her eyes is wrinkly. Thank God for the small things. I always used to wonder she never exibited any signs of fatigue and how she could stay so fresh and glowy. Now we know! And the frown lines and the sun lines on her forehead.
I once saw tv coverage of Faith Hill singing the National Anthem for something and they did a mega zoom on her face and you could see all the lines under her eyes. I used to wonder about her too, with three kids she has to be fatigued once in a while.

And you know those girls can pay for the most expensive anti-wrinkle cremes, which means ... :(

I agree. They're not even human anymore. But seeing this does give everyone some hope though, cause once we realize that most of these glamour shots are just through the wonder of photoshop, it doesn't feel so bad. Especially since photoshop isn't something you can carry around in your purse - in a magazine they might look like that but in person, they've got a lot of explaining to do.

Gimpy, she wore fox lashes to the Academy Awards, I believe. Those look like plain ol' lashes.

Janeane Garafalo hated the way she was airbrushed for the cover of Marie Claire a few years back. She said her friends didn't even know it was her and that she will probably never do a magazine cover again. I had that issue and she looked so homogenized and fake.

I like the "real" j-lo better. (heh - doesn't she have a song about how real she is?) anyways, i think little lines are beautiful. they give a person character. the image on the right isn't a real person. they haven't lived at all. ya know?

Double her flaws...she'll still be gorgeous!

I love this quote:
"Wrinkles should merely indicate where smiles have been." -- Mark Twain
personally, I think lines and wrinkles are great. They make a person interesting, like they've actually lived. I just want to squeeze Dame Maggie Smith. I love her face.

another thing:
one thing about J-Lo I must give props to. her eyebrows are fabulous in both photos

has anyone seen the cover of some mag (maxim? stuff?) with the three girls from charlie's angels. they airbrushed lucy liu to HELL! i don't like her much, but she is gorge, i think. her cute little freckles... well, on this mag they made her look totally european! not even a little asian. she looks mixed to me (i don't know her heritage) but they fuly whitified her. it made me mad. then sad. then i left 7-eleven.

I agree.
Other artist friends of mine and I occasionally discuss what would happen if we "got famous" and one of my theories is past a certain level of fame (the level that affords knowledge and desire enough of what I do to provide well for my family), I don't think I could do it. A major reason being the retouched photo thing. I don't think I could hack feeling like I was lying to other women, that I was part of the problem feeding the machine telling women they are not good enough. I would not allow my pics to be retouched. Make up is good, I love to play dress up, but I do not feel like I can't leave my house without layers on. Young girls are literally killing themselves to be something that does not exist, so are middle aged women for that matter. Eventually, many of these stars, after comparing their aging to their own retouched photos, opt for surgery, and good god!!!! What happened to Meg Ryan? She doesn't look human any more. Have any of you seen pics of Pamela Anderson before surgery.....a sweet, wholesome beauty was she.
I just feel like we're all running around lying to each other...

Exactly, LBM. And for what? If everyone was honest, it would do everyone a lot more good. Of course, it wouldn't help out the multi-billion-dollar beauty industry. It's a crying shame.

Of course, it wouldn't help out the multi-billion-dollar beauty industry.
And that is the bottom line. I'm 31 now....I sometime feel like I look a bit older than I am, but I've probably been around the block a few more time too, so maybe it should show. I was thrilled turning thirty, I really felt like I'm entering the strength of my womanhood. I like the little lines around my eyes, especially when I smile. I ran to my husband giddily when I found my first gray hair...honestly. I made my mother scream out fifty several times at her party the year she turned. She was playing coy, not wanting to divulge exactly how old she was and my take was: you're 50??Wow? Did you ever think you'd see the day?? and then we played
How old are you?? (us)
FIFTY!!!! (her)
How old are you?? (us)
FIFTY!!!! (her)
How old are you?? (us)
FIFTY!!!! (her)
and I think she ended up feeling a bit empowered. I mean, this may be more than most people can handle, but once, just once I'd like to see an actress with a couple of fucking stretchmarks visible in her bikini playing the mother of 5!!! Lisa Marie once wore a midriff baring outfit with a jewel in her belly button shortly after bearing her last child. The same photo appeared in 2 mags, one airbrushed her tummy the other did not, The one that didn't SHREDDED her for baring her belly. WTF??????? I don't think she's shown it since....

yikes! double post.
I always wondered how she could look so good with all of the activities she has (photoshoots, flying everywhere, recording studio, etc.) and not get any undereye bags and wrinkles. Now I know it's the airbrush talking.
