Anyone ever heard of this? I was looking around at some patterns online and found this:
http://www.stitchguide.com/stitches/crochetonthedouble/

It looks really interesting and very different from regular crochet. You use a double-headed crochet hook, which according to that site gives you "the look and feel of knitting with the versatility and ease of crochet." The site gives instructions for knit and purl stitches, which aren't used in crochet, so I guess it's some kind of hybrid. It seems like something that might be helpful to learn if you already know how to crochet and want to learn to knit, or vice versa.

I'm thinking about looking for one of the hooks next time I go on a yarn-buying spree and giving it a shot. Maybe if I'm able to master this, I'll feel comfortable moving on to knitting.

Hee. I was thinking if I could get the hang of that maybe I'd feel comfortable moving on to crochet. [post22]

I've been crocheting for about 9 years now. I learned how to do crochet on the double some time ago. I find that it's kind of a pain in the neck, but it's worth looking into. I'm sure that not everyone thinks it's a pain.

Oooh, I forgot about this thread! :p

dragongirl, I'm going to pick your brain a bit, if you don't mind- Would you say it's a lot more difficult than regular crochet? When you say it's a "pain in the neck", do you mean it's hard to pick up/master the technique, or just kinda difficult altogether? I looked at some of the pictures on that page I linked, and I saw that there were a bunch of loops already on the hook (which is how knitting is done, yes?), which looked so awkward, I would imagine it's hard to get the hang of working like that. As far as giving it the "look and feel of knitting"- is the look of the work significantly different than reg. crochet? Also, just out of pure curiosity, do you knit as well?

I would like to try it, but haven't yet because a) I haven't found a hook yet in my local stores and b) I'm sorta intimidated. ;)

Hi,

I kinda forgot about this thread too.

I don't know how to knit, so I can't really say if it's the same or not. One of the problems I have is that it uses two skeins of yarn, I don't mind that, but it's hard to get used to having to switch off the thread every other row. The other thing, is just that I'm so used to regular crochet that it requires a lot of concentration to make my fingers work properly for crochet on the double.

I really just didn't care for it, so I kind of just stopped doing it.

Don't be scared of it, you should give it a try.

I picked up one of these double-ended hooks for a quarter yesterday, so I'll have to give it a shot when I get the chance.
