humph.
we had our very first sick visit this week. i'll spare you the details, as it turned out to be food poisoning. now i really CAN say i'll NEVER let my child eat at the golden arches again. all is well now, thank heavens.

anyway, when we went for our 2 year check-up, ethan's pediatrician said nothing about his growth. i took this to mean that it was just fine.
during the sick visit, they weighed him, and he had gained one pound since the last check-up. the nurse practitioner said he was very mildly under weight for his height. she said this only after i had to ASK about his measurements, and if they were ok.
sometimes i swear these people do not have a clue.

now, i know that my boy is healthy. they even said he looked great and not too thin. he's just very active, and his dad is small framed and thin. i'm just annoyed that my usual doc didn't mention it, and that the nurse didn't give any recommendations. i would have felt better if she'd said, "don't do anything at all. he's healthy, and his weight is fine."
she just said he's three pounds under weight, and he looks great.

in my head i know i'm making too much of this, and i should just forget about it. so i guess i will, but i just needed to vent. i mean, isn't three pounds a LOT when you only weigh 24 pounds?

i think it comes down to my general dissatisfaction with the pediatrician's office. (i posted a thread a while back about the insane nurse who took ethan's blood BEFORE the visit with the doc....or at least i think i did!) i only have one other ped office to choose from, and it doesn't really get any rave reviews from any of the parents i know either. my husband says we'll never be satisfied because nothing will ever be done "just right." i disagree. i just want people who are supposed to be so clever to bloody ACT like it.
*grumble grumble*

You did post about your horrendous Dr. visit (either her or on LJ).

It sounds to me like your Dr.'s office is very frustrating to you. I have a friend who is going through something similar (coincidently her son's name is Ethan also). She is looking for a new Dr., however her son has special needs and she is having a very hard time finding one.

Maddie's Ped. has been my Ped. since I was 1 day old. I feel very blessed to have the level of comfort we have with him....I imagine I would be REALLY pissed off to have to go through the BS your's is putting you through.

Good luck <3

oof... that is hard. there are pluses and minuses to our practice. wait times generally suck. some of the dr.s don't quite measure up to my first picks but we only see them for a sick visit. the two dr.s we typically see are wonderful.

of course my love of the male dr. comes from my first visit to him. He is an older, short gentle man with great stories. It was my first baby, 2 days old, breastfeeding going not well at all in "my oh my god this is way harder than i thought" emotional hysteria. :D he was wonderful! told me how great i was and how wonderful my daughter was and that she would be just fine. the next day it just sort of clicked.

but back to the other thing, the weight thing. hate that! my kids are both string beans. not like boney looking by any means but long and lean. my daughter wasn't on the growth chart for about 3 years there. and now she is in the woo 10%. my son just turned 3 and i think he is right at or about 24 pounds.

YOU know best and ethan is fine! i am sure of it.

Oh my god.

My son is just about a year old.

And at his 9 mo. doctor appointment, he weighed 22 pounds. He's not a roly-poly, just built like me--stocky.
