I've ordered from Calumet Photo before ( http://www.calumetphoto.com ) at the recommendation of one of my photo professors. The service was great and they've got a lot. Of course, I only use them when my local stores don't have what I need.

Don't forget http://www.nyip.com [post28]!
www.photographyblog.com
they have weekly/monthly/thematic contests where you can win stuff. some of it is base located only to the UK/Europe, however it's a solid community. Some of the people there will piss you off be forewarned. They call themselves purists and they are the snobby my perfect photos are straight off the camera using only film with absolutely no filters or any such "digusting tools & techinques". Even people who are hardcore film users would love to cockpunch these few on a daily basis for attacking styles of photography, use of lens filters etc.

erg. sounds gross. :p
the good people really do outweigh the bad there
there are really only about 3 people that step on everyone's toes. i stopped posting there for a long time because they were even going as far to just outright slag everyone that used digital even if there was no post processing etc. i had better things to spend my energy on you know? but it's not so bad right now, the bad seeds have quieted down.
... they were even going as far to just outright slag everyone that used digital even if there was no post processing etc.Dude, I would have been forced to issue invitations to eat my ass. Live and let live, I always say.
I always "quietly" despised digital. But my stripes....they are a-changing.
Heh heh, well, better late than never! I thought those of us that are using or will be using digital cameras (point-n-shoot as well as DSLRs) should get together and post some info and links.
I posted this in a thread, already, but it's so important that I'm going to post it in this sticky, too.
Understanding the DSLR Magnification Factor (http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/understanding-series/dslr-mag.shtml) - explains the difference of using one particular lens on an SLR film camera as opposed to a DSLR (digital) camera. Basically, if you use, say, a 17-30mm lens on an SLR and then try using that same lens on a DSLR, there will be a difference in magnification. Your FOV (field of view) will not be the same. Click the link to read more and understand how this works.
This thread is open to anyone who has advice, needs advice or would just like to post some helpful links, etc.

I wanted to add these two links, comparing film types:
http://www.popphoto.com/cameraaccessories/407/89-color-films-compared.html
^83 color films compared
http://www.popphoto.com/cameraaccessories/627/28-b-w-films-compared.html
^28 b & w films compared
I find myself going back to these two documents time and again, not only to explain to others, but to remind myself what's out there to use and what they do.
:)
;l When I saw your link in that other topic I was thinking the same thing, it needs to go in here. Too often we share those links :)

It has a lot of information, examples and recommendations about taking pictures. It’ll be useful for us, beginners and amateurs. Is in Spanish though, but highly recommended.
