my daugther came home with lice yesterday. ick.

now we are clean people. with a clean house and clean bodies. but it just makes you feel ick.

we did do the shampoo on her and serious combing. and washing of everything and vacuuming.

i am horrified that it will be hard to get rid of. i haven't seen anything to indicate that she still has them but i know eggs can hatch later.

i'm hoping my son doesn't get them. or me. or hubby.

anyone have experience with this.

ick... :(

last year sucked. Three times we deloused the house. It SUCKS BALLS. I was so paranoid about everything. Thank god we have tile floors. And that the culprit isn't in her class anymore.

I checked every tiny hair shaft twice a day until I found nothing three times in a row. It killed my neck and back, killed hers too. The patience it takes to deal with squirming kids when you're aching and tired and creeped out is just phenomenal.

You have my deepest sympathy.

I found the nit combs to be worthless. Even the expensive metal one. Used the shampoo as directed to kill the lice, and picked the nits out between my fingernails. To keep them from falling on the floor or landing on me, I stuck a big loop of tape near where I was working and stuck each nit to it.

You have my sympathies also....Pretty Enemy..you sound just like my best friend last spring. She was on the verge of a nervous breakdown due to her 14 year old daughter with mega thick hair having lice. This is an upper middle class family with friends basically the same....it has nothing to do with being dirty. My friend is a clean freak..her house is immaculate...her daughter's case was very stubborn..she would continuously find eggs behind her ears and did pull them out strand by strand with her fingernails. It was exhausting for her. They finally got a super strong prescription from the pediatrician which the girl left on her head all night. The lice are just getting very resistant to the products that we have. I really don't think they can live on a carpet for long or anything like that. I wouldn't worry so much about that, just be dilligent...I'd change pillow cases everyday for a while....throw out all the combs and brushes and have the school nurse check for you too. Some cases do clear up very quickly. I wish you the best of luck...the idea terrifies me as my daughter is African American.

this is me. oh yes. i found that having her play on the computer while i look is best. i swear i have looked at every single strand of hair this child has!! i did go through it yesterday very thoroughly and found only two nits that i had missed. i too will not feel satisfied until i do this at least 3 more times and find none. and do the shampoo again at the 10 day mark.

we have done BOAT loads of laundry and every tickle and itch i feel makes me ultra paranoid.

please tell me that no one else in your family got it...

i do think we caught it early.

ick ick ick.

thanks for the sympathy!!! :)

My husband didn't get it, my cat seemed not to have any (we bathed the hell out of him just in case), but I got a few after the first major delousing. After that I wore a hat or scarf when I picked through her head, and washed both of our clothes immediately following the delousing sessions.

It's SO HARD being a major control freak, having to trust someone else to pick through your head thoroughly. Of course they can't do as good a job, damnit! I watched my husband zip through Elise's hair and proudly announce that he'd found nothing, she was clean - then found 4 or 5 when I checked for myself because I didn't trust him. Those 4 could get everything started all over again. I drove to my mom's to have her check my head every day for a week, only found anything the first two days.

I went nuts and cut her hair really short, but she looks nice with short hair. The longer it gets the crazier it drives me.

What a nice way to promote the "poor people = dirty people" stereotype.

I got lice a few times when I was a kid ... always when I went to visit my grandparents in Israel, or when I lived there myself. We'd get rid of them and then I would visit my grandparents the next summer and come back with more lice. I haven't had them since I stopped visiting (when I was twelve) and probably before, but I still get paranoid when my head starts getting even a little itchy.

i think the point is, they don't discriminate. i have a friend at work who i told about it and she told me that her whole gang got it last year and she never told anyone she was so humiliated. unfortunately that is a good way to keep spreading it.

i did notify my daughter's school because the more kids they find with it the more likely it is that they will get rid of it. at least i hope.

all tho i am finding how damn diligent you have to be... :(

searched her every hair again today and found 3 more. how did i miss them... argh. and yes my back is killing me.

I am so annoyed right now. The nurse just called me saying my daughter was there itching. She said she found like 1 nit. Then asked me if I know where she got it. I told her I notified the school and Bar-T immediately and that I thoroughly check her hair daily. That I haven't found many. She said "we don't have a problem with lice in this school and you really need to stay on top of it". That really pisses me off. I wouldn't have called if I wasn't on top of it. I am going to kill these people if they make my child feel badly for this. And me for that matter.

lice is all about clean hair, so i wouldnt worry about people thinking you're dirty.

Heres a good story. my sisters girlfriend was working at a summer camp with a bunch of little kids, she got lice and gave it to my ENTIRE family, sans my mom who was in florida. I started my senior year of high school with LICE! I have really thick hair and i did the rit treatment like 5 times and we were still finding them in my hair. I ended up buying a bottle of feria and suffocating the little suckers in hair dye :)!
