I probably have a hundred tubes of different brands of lipstick...the whole range of prices, but usually the same range of shades!
I'm always trying new brands, & last nite I picked up a tube of "Rimmel" long lasting lipstick at WalMart for about 3 bucks! I got a shade called "MaiTai," and wore it today. I have to admit it's pretty good stuff...especially for that price! A couple years ago I recommended another cheapie fave to Aylay...Maybelline, the long-lasting slim-tube kind, in Raisin, which is a great red shade. The Maybelline is good, along with L'Oreal which has some great colors (but the price shoots up to about 5 or 6 for them *lol*), and the Revlon isn't bad, either, altho I've had some of them apply badly.
I always like to use a good lip pencil, & have always used Lancome "Fresco" with any shade of lipstick. That one or my Chanel "Naturel." MAC "Spice" that we read about being used in all the magazines is a good neutral, but still kinda brownish. I have a couple good ones from Clinique, too.
What do you all use or recommend? I've read posts of some big fans of MAC, which I'm going to grab a tube on my next trip to the mall...gotta try it!
What was your biggest lipstick "disappointment"? Mine has to be the Borghese, which was pretty pricey for the long lasting stuff, and your lips have to be just-so to apply it, add the lip liner later, etc. It smells/tastes kinda perfumey, & I wasn't wild about the texture.

ewwwwwww I HATE CLinique lipsticks!! They have lousy colors and the texture and feel is so nasty. It doesn't have staying power (which is one of my prerequisites with lipstick) and it is too gooey.

I am and always will be a fan of MAC lipsticks and lip stains. SOme other brands I like of lipsticks are Bobbi Brown's line, Sebastian Trucco, and Chanel.

You're so right about Clinique! They have a ton of lipsticks, too. I actually have, tho, tried their long-lasting kind and it's pretty good, altho they don't have a nice range of colors.
Tonight I went to the mall & bought a couple tubes of MAC after seeing all the high recommendations here. I bought "Mystic" and the new "Viva Glam III". I also bought an eyeshadow, "Bark," but this is a lipstick topic!;s
They need a lips type smilie face here...
I didn't have totally clean lips when I put on the Mystic, so I can't give my review, but it did pretty well! I ordered a tube of Philosophy lipstick from the beautyjungle.com website, and it's really good, too. I couldn't feel it on, that lipstick "feel." BUT, it's hard to judge the colors on the monitor...so you need to figure you're going to get pretty close, but not exactly to what you're picturing.
The new Viva Glam is great...kind of a matte finish & natural darkened lip shade.

I actually just bought three new brands of lipstick (for me)... so I'll give my review:

Tony 'n' Tina in "Chosen". Tony 'n' Tina's packaging is cool... it's like MAC's bullet shape, but silver. The lipstick is a pinky-tawny shade, very nice with my pale skin tone. Feels good. Tastes weird.. it's enriched with botanicals, smells like lavender, and tastes like it too :m which is not a good thing.... but I like the feel so I may buy another one. $15

Philosophy "Passion"... great color, it's supposed to be a Gillian Anderson color (along with MAC's Marrakesh, which I love).. it's a sheer gloss that is your color bumped up a notch... taste is pretty neutral. A definite "try another color from this line". $15

Club Monaco "Glaze". Yes, that's the Monica Lewinsky color, and I love it (but I don't think that it looked the same on her.. oh well)... it's a purply pinky neutral, very sheer... great for every day, just kind of perks things up. Tastes waxy. Will probably buy again. $15

I bought the first two from BeautyJungle.com, where you can get a free $18 Tony 'n' Tina Mind/Matter eyeshadow if you buy $25 in T&T products.. that's a lipstick and a nail polish.. and that eyeshadow color is GREAT.. it's become my everyday shade.

Love!

I read about the "Passion" lipstick which sounded like a color I'd want...so I went & ordered it!!! Plus a pencil!
I probably have that Wet&Wild pencil already! Yep, for a buck, you can't beat it! And that's how I use it, line, fill a little & smear! I also like a Bonne Bell I get at the grocery store, it's "Mocha Mama" lip crayon, which is a great brownish pinkish color, & it smells & tastes kinda like mocha coffee. There's also a great dark red shade I bought& like, but don't remember the name right now.

I hope you like the Passion, Girlscout! It's become my "keep in my purse at all times" color. :)

Mind you I also have the coloring of Gillian, so it works really well for me.

Tell me what you think!

i bought this lipstick a couple of weeks ago @ sally beauty supply. i have no idea what the brand is but the color is really pretty. it's like a brownish shimmer w/a lil peach in it. and it stays on pretty good. i also found this stuff that you put on over your lipstick to seal it. it's a liquid-y stuff in a roll-on tube. it works pretty good.
also, i have this real nifty lipstick from k-mart. it's revelon...i think...anywho, on the top of the tube it has a lil bitty mirror. comes in handy when you're in a hurry.

L'Am, I have a friend that swears by that roll-on sealer stuff!!!
UN...I love the Passion! I went on your recommendation here cuz it's hard to tell exactly what shade it is by the monitor. I also accidentally got a matching lip pencil, a Tony&Tina, B-6 is the color name, and it's a darkish reddish neutralish lippy shade. I kind of like the herbal effect, too...it reminds me of some cover creme stuff I got from Body Shop, that I'm hoping they haven't discontinued with a bunch of stuff here lately, or my Origins foundation that I love. They blend together perfectly!
I'm gonna seek out that Flame Glo lip pencil, too. I thought maybe I had that one, but I have a different neutral shade of theirs. For a buck! I've also used their eyebrow pencil which is not bad. I got their lightest shade. I had one I liked by L'Oreal, but (of course) they discontinued it and have some new kohl pencil now, with a highlighter powder at the other end, which I don't need. ooh yeah...this is a lipstick topic!!!

I'm so glad you like the Passion, Girlscout!! Isn't it a great shade? I'll have to pick up that Tony 'n' Tina liner.

oops, I meant Wet&Wild, not FlameGlo on the lip pencil I need to seek out. The one I have is a great neutral, but not the one mentioned by Cheesy.
UN, the lip pencil kind of gives it more color, but the same shade. I love the sheer effect, too, but I've noticed now that I'm older I feel I need a liner. I take care of my skin, & don't smoke so I don't have the pruny wrinkles setting in around my lips, but it still has a tendency to look like it's going to bleed a little, depending on the lipstick. Once I picked up a colorless lip liner from Body Shop, and I think Coty has an anti-feather liner that's colorless, too. Those are probably what I need with the sheer colors.

I haven't had to use liner until just recently... now I'm addicted. Colorless liner is a good idea.. just enough to make sure it doesn't feather. The dark colors are what I've noticed I really need them with-- especially this one color, Amorous by Christian Dior.. it's a Diorific Plastic Shine gloss and it bleeds like CRAZY.. start off with perfect cupid bow lips, an hour later and it looks like I've been doing naughty things <g>
Too bad the stuff is a great color in AWESOME packaging

Had to go get my favorite lippies so I could share:

I have two Mac lipsticks that I use a good bit. My favorite is Velvet, a purple with a bit of glitter in it, and I also have Ruby Woo really great for making red glitter lips with if you add some glitter and lip glass.
The lippie I use almost more than any of them is Grape Suzette... a purple shade from Sweet Georgia Brown that smells and tastes kind of grapey. It doesn't stay well but I like the shade and it was cheap cheap. I also like the Streetwear one called Juicy sometimes it's more matte than the others.
I really want to get some more Mac lipsticks because I think they are well worth it. They stay incredibly well and they taste good. :) I never have such good luck with cheap lipsticks.. they always clump up on my lips and look horribly icky.

~lol@naughtythings~
I thought of another cheap lipstick to hate...REVLON! Their ColorStay is pretty good in some shades, but the regular stuff...why bother? It's a mess!
I really do recommend the Rimmel brand I picked up at WalMart, everybody...if you ever get there or somewhere that has that brand, check out the shades & fork out the $3 or whatever it was. That MaiTai shade is a good one for touch-ups, kind of a mocha pinky tone. It's probably the cheapest lipstick I have besides my 99 cent Wet&Wild pencil.
Keep checking on that MAC website! I'm sure Meganatrix will post for us when it's up! I hope!

The site is up! I posted a link in Online Beauty, I think, & Meganatrix posted an announcement with the url, too!
On lipstick, if you like to darken your natural lip shade, the MAC Viva Glam III does that. I put some on & smudge it on with my finger. It stays a long time & is an excellent natural darkening shade.
