Ok, as you've all heard by now I have a 3 month old son. He turned 3 months old on the 1st of Sept.

I have been looking in his mouth the past few days and it seems that I can see the apperance of teeth. They aren't breaking through but it's like I can see the indentation of teeth and it's like white through the gums. He has been drooling like crazy. Some times more than others, but man he can slime you good.

I am terrified for teething. I just got past that relatively short, but seemingly endless colic period. I want a happy baby for a few months. I know some babies can be born with teeth, although it is very rare.

My husbands brother started teething at four months. Is it possible that my son might be teething soon?

Other than him trying to bite off my finger (and damn that hurts!) what signs do I look for. I've heard that child can get a runny nose and a slight fever and of course the gums are red and swollen. Anything else I should know?

I am so scared to go through this. I don't know if this is going to happen soon, like the next week he'll be getting a tooth breaking through. Or will I have another month or so before I see one pop up??

Any help you all can give me I would really apprecaite it!!

Thanks,
~Sally

Anything else to know...

Kids can teethe VERY slowly. You may see signs of teething now, but they can last for months. Nicholas started teething at 3 months, but didn't get his first tooth till 6 months.

Your kid may or may not have a tough time with teething. Some kids have trouble with the first but are ok after that. Some kids, like mine, have trouble with each.and.every.tooth. 10x worse when the molars are coming in! *ugh*

Don't freak out if your kid doesn't follow the tooth eruption charts to the letter. Nicholas got his first two teeth at 6 months and then did not get another for yeesh, 5 months? Then he had SIX teeth coming all at once.

They can pop up before you know it. Don't freak out. It could happen rather peacefully. My son got his two bottom front teeth at 7 mos. and I didn't notice much except he wanted to chew on everything, excessive drooling, and occasionally he acted like they hurt , so I put some Oragel on them. Don't worry - it will all work out fine. ;)

I saw my grandma today and had her take a look, she felt around on his gums and said that it might not be too much longer before he gets teeth.

I guess nobody can really say how much longer it'll be. I know it's going to happen, I probably won't be ready for it whenever it does happen. But it's all a part of life. We'll survive!
