Okay damn.... I have to post about this.
I may very well be crazy... or wrong. Both are highly likely, but I need some opinions.
So, I'm taking an anti-biotic to get rid of a nasal infection. I've been taking it for 3 days. The doctor warned it could impact the effectiveness of the pill. I am on the pill. I've shared this fact with husband. Last night, husband and I are fooling around. Before we get into the "official" act, I remind him to pull out (we haven't bought condoms yet). He forgets... and um, doesn't pull out (I must admit, it was fantastic, though). We usually go for a few more times, but I say "honey, did you forget?" and he freaks out. Yes, he forgot.
Not such a big deal, right? I'm 32 - the chances I'm all fertile aren't that great anyway.
Currently, I'm at the sugar pill section of my BC pills. I got my period today, too.
.... but ... I feel incredibly sick to my stomach. I've been pregnant before (as a teenager and it was terminated) and was VERY sick. This feeling is a bit familiar, but I could be crazy.
[insert @forumz style bullet point ponderings]
Am I crazy?
Could I be pregnant?
Would I feel sick less than 24 hours after (possible) inception?
Is there a test that can let me know TODAY?

C'mon people... you're the only ones I can worry with today!
I only know of tests you can take on the actual day of a missed period.

So, no such magical test I can take tonight?
I keep feeling waves of nausea.
How about another 24 hours?
Aw shit - who am I kidding? You all know I"m going to go buy a test after work and take one right after work! If its negative, I'll take a second one in a few days just to be sure. If its positive, I'll take a second one in a few days to be sure but I'll begin officially panicing.

I'm sure its nothing.
I mean - I have my period right now! (but it was sex last night)
Hrmmm, I googled and it said there are some which can two days before a period is due.
A blood test administered by your doctor is more sensitive than the early home tests and can be taken between seven and twelve days after you conceive.

looks like getting one at the doctors could be a solution.

don't be suprised if tests don't work for a few weeks. i didn't test positive until 3.5 weeks later. i knew i was pregnant 3 days after sex... i felt different. i don't think you would feel different this early... it could be stress. the hcg hormone will not register this quickly so a test would be a waste of money.

Could the nausea be a side effect of the antibiotics? They always make me nauseus.
I don't know if you're really feel any symptoms of pregnancy before the embryo would even implant. I think that might take a few days, but I'm not sure.

The nausea could be from the antibiotics. If you are on the sugar pills then most likely you aren't pregnant but there is always that chance. You would pretty much just have to wait it out for a few weeks but most people don't experience nausea until at least 4 weeks into it.
after intercourse it takes 10-12 hours for the sperm to reach the area where the egg would be. Then it takes an additional 5-7 days for a fertilized egg to travel down into the uterus and implant. Hormones don't start being produced until after implantation - and those are what the pee on a stick tests look for. The earliest test is the blood test which you'd still have to wait at least another 4 or 5 days for i think.
I agree that it's probably the antibiotic that is making you fell sick - i know they tear up my tummy. My advice is not to worry, you probably aren't pregnant. Antibiotics might reduce the pills' effectiveness but it won't put it at zero. Also, most women who've been on the pill for awhile won't even ovulate until they've been off of the pill for at least a month. Hope this makes you feel better.

Yeah, you guys are probably right... its the antibiotics.
I feel fine today, too.
is it crazy that I feel a little sad?
we'll start trying in a year and I know that. but still... a part of me is a bit sad.

Antibiotics are notorious for causing digestive woes. My son has to take a small dose of one every day, and for the first couple weeks they really bothered his stomach.

I do think healthy egg thoughts! But the harsh reality is the probability of getting pregnant right away go down the older you get. I feel secure, yet I worry secretly. But the real REAL truth is I'm in a blissfully happy marriage and if we don't have kids of our own, we'll adopt and I'm totally fine with that too :)

Aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Shut your mouth! ;)
Antibiotics are notorious for killing good bacteria in your stomach (as I understand it). Same thing happened to my sister-in-law - nausea and diarrhea. She took some acidophilus tablets which helped tremendously.

Was that for me? I have one kid and am in no hurry for another right now. But I don't want that option off the table! I'm pushing 31, which apparently is only a year away from certain death. ;)

The harsh reality is that your fertility doesn't start to decline until your late 30s, and women can get pregnant into their 40s. My grandmother had her last child at 42, my m-i-l at 42, and my aunt who is 44 is now pregnant.
In the case of my aunt she believed that entering menopause automatically made her infertile. Nope, nope, nope!
So. Did you get your period yet? :)

Yes, I actually started the day I worried I had become pregnant. My stomach was wierd this morning so I think I"m gonna take a pregnancy test this evening. Just to be sure.
I know that people can have children past the mid 30's and even in their 40's. But those are rare cases. More often, a woman that age struggles to get pregnant with their FIRST child. Having a second/third/fourth child past 35 doesn't increase the chances of DS. Its the date your first child was born that makes a difference.
At least this is what I've read and have heard from my doctor.
Again.... I'm not actually really worried about this - its just not our time yet. We're not trying to have children yet. But it would be naive of me to assume I'll get pregnant the first month I'm off my period. I hope I'm that lucky because I'll get more time off if it gets timed *just right*. But I am confident that things will work out smoothly for us.
Does anybody know of a way to get pregnant with twins? Cuz thats my dream :)

I don't understand how the date you have your first child affects your fertility later. Fertility is a genetic trait. Either you can breed, will have a hard time, or you can't breed at all. At least, that's how my doctor explained it to me. Either way, I won't argue, but I will point out that people having children in their late 30s and 40s isn't rare, or if it is, then my family and my husband's family are freaks.
To get pregnant with twins, might also be a question of genetics. Apparently you're much more likely to have them if incidences of twin births run in your family. Barring that you can take fertility drugs, but you might end up with a lot more than twins that way. ;)

I don't understand it either, but its what I've been told by my doctor and my mom. I'll worry about it should it ever become a problem :)
Twins DO run in my family. So, maybe....!
Fraternal twins are genetic but identical are not.

Ah, well. Until I see something in writing I'm just not going to worry about how old I have to be before I can't breed. ;)
There are fraternal twins on my Dad's side, and I think having twins would be wonderful fun, but I'm not so sure carrying two babies at once would be fun! A friend of our family had triplets, and she needed specialised care & bed rest from about the 5th month on. She said she was very happy when the time came to give birth. ;)
