Do any of you kids have good advice for not getting or removing deoderant stains on shirts?
On my tees I tend to get a white stain after a few months. I used to use spray on deoderant and it actually made the stains a weird murky colour--like a metallic grey/blue hue that grossed me out. So I switched to roll-on and I get the ones that claim to "go on clear" but still get 'em. I tried the gel roll-ons but I get a skin reaction so I can't use 'em. I even "air out" before I put my shirts on in the morning so it dries a bit.
I just hate that after 3 or 4 months my tees are basically not suitable to wear out unless I layer them under something.
This topic actually grosses me out because I'm not fond of armpits.[blue]
You can dab on undiluted white vinegar before a normal wash, or, never underestimate the power of baby wipes. How they don't dissolve babies I don't know because they shift just about everything.
have you tried the crystal deodorants?

Have you tried letting the deodorant dry completely before putting your shirt on? I don't know it that'll actually work, but it might.

Thanks for the tips, Abi!
I just googled crystal deoderants--I had never heard of them before.
Christine- I usually try to let it dry. Though, it's not usually completely dry because I don't always have time to wait. I contemplated blowdrying it before, but then wondered if that just melts it back to how it started and didn't dry it.
I've obvoiusly spent too much time thinking about this.
Crystal deodorants are quite pricy. About £8 here.

Pantyhose gets out deodorant stains, all you have to do is rub it vigorously on the white mark.

you can also handle the problem by making a paste of ammonia and COLOUR SAFE BLEACH (not- and I cannot repeat this enough, regular chlorine bleach-- if you mix the two, the fumes will kill you) akin to OxyClean powder, rub it into the stain, let it set for a short while, and wash!
but please don't screw that up and die.

Please, like those panythose are for wearing. [spank2] I didn't work so hard to get legs like these and buy a closet full of miniskirts just to cover them up.
Thank ewes guyz for the helpful hints. Hmm. I'll have to try all these things. Not at the same time, or I'll end up with a collection of sleeveless shirts and look like the cast of Queer as Folk.

Ooh Peter's toxic mixture sounds like a fun way to dice with death :D
I have a brown t-shirt which developed pink pit stains after a while. If they were in any other place on the t it would have been cool...

I've ordered some crystal deoderant to give it a go.
If people ask me not to participate in the "YMCA" singalong, then I know it's not working particularly well for me.

Yup, I can corroborate that. I've been using it since last summer and haven't had any problems with it staining my shirts. I <3 Biotherm. =D

^That's what I was going to say. I didn't see it listed there. Though I think there might've been a link at Nordstrom's website, but m Net crashed as I was trying to click it.

Here's (http://www.strawberrynet.com/800/sproductDetail.aspx?ProdId=39127) the product that I use (which, frustratingly, I couldn't locate on their website). You have to scroll down a bit to see it. :)

I'm pretty sure that it's the aluminum in many deoderants that causes that discoloration. When it reacts with your body chemistry, it starts to permanently discolor the fabric. For some people, it's worse than others. I'm one of the lucky ones who has to throw out my white T-shirts on a regular basis.
I think the 'natural' deoderants are supposed to get around this problem because they dont' use aluminum.

i don't know if it works, but i seem to remember hearing that baby wipes can get deodorant off of clothes. i could be dreaming, though.

Mine arrived today.
Wrapped in a silver paper and with a pink bow around the box. Apparently I marked it as a gift?
Either way, I'll update on how it goes.
Each day.

So, it's been a few weeks and the Biotherm works just fine. I haven't noticed any stains, so that's a good thing. And it keeps me uberfresh.
However, I recently found this at Target and decided to pick it up so I'd have something else to try when my Biotherm ran out.

It's freakin' amazing. It's completely dry and scentless, but it works. I don't have to reapply during the day. I really thought it was going to be a rip-off when I first sprayed it 'cause it looks like it's pure water. Oh, how I was wrong.
So four bucks for this versus twenty-two for Biotherm...I think I've found a keeper.
Anti-persperants gave my t-shirts yellow pit stains, so I switched to deoderant and no yellow stains.
But Rapyd, you're talking about the stain you get when you put your t-shirt on and the deoderant is all wet and it marks the t-shirt leaving a white filmy stain?

Well, I get a white stain, but I get it from wearing the shirt all day. I let the deoderant dry before I put it on (I have a whole routine down about putting it on and then shaving and doing all my other stuff before putting the shirt on). But I think my sweat makes the deoderant stain the fabric.
I'm, apparently, that acidic.
I have used crystal stick for years now. You have to accept smelling sometimes, but honestly after long shifts of waiting tables I smell better than if I'd used Red Zone by Old Spice, which was my old a/p of choice.
I did the spray for a long time, the one you found at target, but I would always apply and then have to wait a seemingly really long time for it to dry fully. Like, I'd spray a bunch on, and then feel it running down out of my pits, so I'd routinely have to go lie on the bed with my arms up to make sure it dried where it was supposed. I don't know if that makes me un-smart, but it's what I did.
the point I'm circling around is this one: the product that I feel is the best is the crystal stick deodorant stick that you wet and then rub on.
This is what mine looks like. Although, I only own one. I mean, who needs two?

Hmm. I need to try that. I just have issues with rubbing a rock on my body. It'll be like when phipc hazed me all over again. :(
Btw, I have a fantastic image of you being late for work but having to lie on your back on the bed with little fans blowing on you.
(i just thought that I don't wear deoderant if I'm going to have sex, but I make sure I am fresh in my inner sanctum . . . ah, the joys of teh ghey sex).

That wouldn't be very wise.
I've had issues with various anti-perspirants over the years. .. it's been so damn hard to find something that works and doesn't ruin my clothes ... but recently I've been using some spray thing from Nivea, which actually is ok. I only bought it cause it's tiny and I was travelling so much that the size was so handy. Now I'm kinda stuck on it.. but I might try some of the other suggestions from this thread if I can get them here in Ireland.. .

This Crystal Stick thing LOOKS cheap but is actually quite pricey! I just bought one. Perhaps the unusually high price can be accounted for by the fact that it doubles as a carry-on dildo.

I have learned so much from this thread!
So this vinegar trick, does that just take off the white stains from freshly left behind deodorant or will it help lessen the weird discoloration left behind?
This problem happens to all my favorite shirts too. I thought I was the only one!

Hotness.
And the Macness too :)
Okay, I'm going to head back to the girly place shortly, but I wanted to report that after reading this thread I decided to try a crystal deodorant. So I got a roll-on version of this:
http://images.mothernature.com/Products/450/87513.jpg
And I have to agree with Rapid - there's no scent to it at all and yet it works better than anything I've ever used in my life. And the bonus? Mine was less than $3. Weeeeee!
Yeah. This is going to be my new official staple in the morning routine. And no more ruined t-shirts!
Excellent! More converts!!! *rubs hands together*

Aluminum causes pit stains. Usually as aluminum zirconium. It's also been linked to alzheimers and cancer. (because well, you're absorbing metal everyday.)
I use Tom's Of Maine. Scented, unscented, I love them. I'm currently using Apricot. No aluminum, found in most stores!

Yeah, I can't use stuff with aluminum in it. I'm using Tom's of Maine right now, but the other day I noticed stains in a few light shirts. Luckily they mostly washed out.
