View Full Version : Kate Bush is just too smart for me...

I don't really know how to explain this...

Every time I buy an album with Kate I fall in love with it, I really do. So then I get curious and want to read more about the songs and lyrics so I'll find some website (like gaffaweb) and then I'll get all intimidated! Yanno what I mean? It's like she doesn't write a song that is just straight-up, all of them are based on books or Irish folktales or Tennyson or God knows what. It all becomes very intellectual and quite frankly less personal. It just annoys me now for some reason that the main character in a song never seems to be Kate. I'm probably just jealous of that cultural and intellectual upbringing of hers...

i totally agree DrippingMango! My sister really got into KB a couple years ago and found all that stuff on gaffaweb too, and while what kate does is cool, it seems so impersonal! so many of her songs are based on books or movies and it's kinda weird. but i guess it can be good too because then the songs are stories and you don't get obsessed with what's going on in HER life, ya know what i mean? like, we all know tori and eric broke up and we look fer that in the pele songs. we all know tori miscarried and we look for that in choirgirl songs. but then again, that way we feel more connected to the artist. so i dunno...people just work differently i guess. :)

I think it is a good thing, because i love to know what songs are about, so i read the books and get into those topics. Instead, for tori songs, i get a tori biography and the only thing im getting into is tori's life...
kate's songs might be impersonal, but I they make me curious and thanks to them I picked up some wonderful books, and am a more knowledgeable person...
I think its a good thing. and oit is also really more humble, i mean, her world doesnt spin around her, as tori, whose songs are all about her.
