The only time I now cook nice meals for Paul's teens, bless 'em (I really do love them), is only I want to eat it desperately. Otherwise, it is not worth spending more than an hour's time and effort preparing something that's going to be wolfed down in half a minute, taste and texture completely lost.

I once tried to explain to them that it would be like them presenting me with a peice of art they worked hard to produce, and me just sort of grunting and pushing it aside. I don't think they got it, because I'm pretty sure the speed of ingestion has actually increased since then.

So yes, good food wasted on children. I had an aunt who loved cooking and always said that about kids. I really resented her saying that until I got older.

Have I mentioned lately how much I love this forum?

I understand your reasoning and I don't think you're wrong.
On the other hand, I hate it when children will only eat pizza or hamburgers. If a family goes to a chinese restaurant, the kids should order something chinese. Or italian. Or mexican.

oh yes, I do agree there. I mean kids should eat good food, just not overly prepared and well thought out food, because the thought that went into it is lost on them.

But they should be given a variety of things so you don't have a kid on your hands who's dietary intake includes fish sticks, pizza, and chips.
