Hi. I'm Lisa. I'm usually over in MTF, mostly lurking.
My husband and I just started trying.... this is our first month of trying and now it's just the long wait (well, just a couple weeks, but feels like forever) to see if it happened.
I've been on the pill for ten years and this is the first month without it. I also smoked for more than a decade and quit recently too... so this week as I've been nauseous and dizzy and smelling things like I'm a bloodhound and being a total hormonal freak I can't tell if it's the change in hormones from just getting off the pill and smokes or anything else.
So basically I'm a bunch of laughs to be around right now. :)
I know it would be very early to have symptons, but it is possible.
So I thought I'd introduce myself a little since I probably will be hanging around, seeing what I can learn from you experienced folks.

Welcome! I'm Lisa, and I'm already pregnant. It must be hard kicking the pill and cigarettes at the same time! Your body is going through system overload. Hang in there.

I quit smoking 3 years ago and it sucked! I smoked for over 15 years.... *wistful sigh*
I quit the pill about 4 months ago and had some serious hormonal madness in that first period. It was a lot of fun being a mega bitch for no reason ;)
Anyway - congrats! [post75]
good luck. it may seem like it takes forever, but it'll all come together.
I'm another Lisa who is also currently pregnant.

This thread is apparantly only for girls named Lisa who have bunnies in their ovens.

No bun for me, I think. Took my very first test ever and it was negative. Now, I could have taken it too early and it didn't detect anything, but that it such a small chance... I haven't gotten AF yet or even any signs that it is coming, but it's been a decade since it came without me being on the pill, that I don't know what to expect.
Since I'm a tad bit of a hypochondriac, now I'm like "if i'm not pregnant, where did all those weird symptoms come from all at once?"
I was just hoping it was happening too cause I don't know if we're going to be challenged in this area and I don't want to worry. I won't worry the first 6 months it doesn't happen, but there is a point where I'd freak. I only have one ovary and husband had surgery on his part years ago. The doctors say everything is ok, but you don't know until you try.
At least I have A Piano clips to keep me happy in the meantime. :)

You know, worry and stress = no good! Soon as you quit worrying, it happens! a lsdkfjalsf als
I've known couples who tried for years and then finally accepted it wasn't going to happen. They went on vacation and she came back pregnant. My parents were friends with this couple who finally decided they would just adopt. A month after they found out they were approved and would have a baby in a few months, she found out she was pregnant.
Good luck and have fun trying.

So, that month I was not knocked up... (But I think though I was fertilized, but there was no implantation.)
Anyway, I am now though. 6 wks along. I went and saw a doctor yesterday... I think it was supposed to be for the initial visit and exam, but Tuesday I started spotting and they had me come in take a blood test. So yesterday we mostly talked about the blood test and how it was fine. So if I didn't have to have come in Tuesday, wtf were we going to do on Thursday?
It was odd. If it was too early for a pelvic, etc, then why did they schedule an appt with me at all? What did you all have done on your first appointment with a doctor?
My doctor left the practice and the substitute doctor I saw yesterday is also leaving, so I have to find someone altogether new.
And Tuesday I get to have my first (very early too) ultrasound because of the spotting and because I only have one ovary and if there was a problem, I don't want to lose the one I have.
Yay for little bean!
Good luck on your u/s Tuesday, you'll be able to see the baby. Well a little blob with a blinking heart at least :)
I too had spotting and full on bleeding around week 8 that they never really figured out what it was from, and my pregnancy went well.

I too had bleeding episodes with my first pregnancy. We never figured out why.... she's now a happy 2 year old though.
My first OB appointments were about the same as yours. They'd do a pee test. Or try to see something on an ultrasound. I got a crap load of reading material and that was about it!

I didn't even get any pamphlets, booklets, handouts, or even recommendations. I couldn't believe how little they cared.... Didn't ask if I was smoking or drinking or really, any questions at all.
but I'll never have to see her again, at least

I'm trying too. I wish it would just happen already, but I guess I have to be patient. Good luck :)

Hi all. I'm getting in on this discussion a little late I see... Anyway, my husband and I have been trying for almost 2 years now with no luck. It is so frustrating. Anyone else in the same situation?
And congrats Lisa!! How is everything going? :)

Me and my husband tried for about a year and a half. I have PCOS so that makes things complicated. (PCOS means that my body makes my eggs into cysts.) I've been taking Vitex for more than 6 months and that's made me have eggs again. Anyway, I took a pregnancy test Friday and it was positve. :)

Going fine for me. I'm 20 weeks this coming week and it's flying by. It might be the easiest prenancy (so far, knock wood) I've heard of... I haven't even popped yet so I can still wear a lot of my normal tops. I expect to turn into a cranky, bloated, house for the last 20 weeks any day now. ;)

So now I'm 39+ weeks. Due Tuesday (according to my cycle) or Thursday (doctors' math).
No real contractions. Still have the mucus plug, water hasn't broken. I can still sleep at night, relatively speaking. It's been a relatively easy pregnancy. The only bad things are acid (thank god for pepcid and tums) and my left foot swells if I don't keep it elevated all the time. I haven't worn any shoes but flip flops in a month and a half.
My doctor said if I don't go by 41 wks, they'll have me come in for tests. I haven't had to have an exam yet. I like the doctors I see (I rotate through the ob/gyn/midwives in the practice) because they don't make you if you don't want to. Since my weight gain and blood pressure have been normal and the baby's heartbeat is fine, why bother? There's going to be enough going on down there soon enough, lol.
I have to say too that I toured my hospital and it's got them new fangled "birthing suites" and dang! They're nicer than the last few hotels I've been in. Cottage-style furniture and handmade quilts and carpeting in the halls. I'm not going to want to check out.
For those of you on Mirena, did your insurance cover it? Mine won't. They'll cover the procedure, but not the cost of the device itself. I just don't know if I want to risk $500 of my own money on something I'm not sure I will like.

Well, I still had the tail end of insurance when I had my Mirena put in, so they did cover it. Now that I have no insurance, and my Mirena is due out a year from now, I'm kind of wondering how that's going to work out. meep! I will say that I originally went to my county's health department to get it put in, but they turned me away and referred me to an OB in town because they said they "only do them there for women without insurance." Maybe you could try that, since your insurance won't cover it? Also, have you called your local planned parenthood to ask if they could do it; don't they usually have a sliding fee in those places? I think the Mirena is totally worth it, either way you decide. The past four years have been bliss not having to worry about birth control or taking pills every day or getting a shot or __________ [ect]. I don't do well with hormones at all, but the Mirena has been really bearable; I won't claim I haven't had some hormonal outbursts, but once I recognize that's what's happening, then I'm usually okay... whereas with pills I was just a raging irrational mess!
Good luck with the end of your pregnancy! I'll be sending good [soon!] labor thoughts your way! :)
I lurve my Mirena. I love not having to worry about taking a pill everyday, or the hormonal freak outs.
You've been so quiet! I didn't realize that the time has flown by so quickly and that baby is nearly here! Good luck with the bit of time left you have in the pregnancy and hope that you have an easy labour when it happens!

I'm waiting for my insurance to preapprove a Mirena - but even if they don't cover it, it costs as much as one year of co-pays on BC pills and I'd have it in for 2-3 years, so it seems worthwhile anyway - and everyone I know loves theirs!

Mirena totally seems the way to go, even if i have to pay out of pocket. I'm just so afraid I'll be one of those people who have problems and it would literally be like flushing $500 down the toilet. Plus my insurance runs out after the baby comes (I was laid off in April and they extended my benefits until after the baby is born) so being on the pill might not be a good idea if I dont have insurance. I won't go to the local planned parenthoods if I can help it. I think generally speaking it's a great organization and I've used them in 3 states, but the 2 near me SUCK and border on malpractice.
(I had a GIANT tumor on my ovary years ago but didnt know it. Like grapefruit-sized. I had an internal at PP. She said "your ovary seems good" about that side. A few months later, I'm having emergency surgery. It didn't grow there overnight. How does one miss something that large when you're a trained professional? If she had caught it, I could have not had to have emergency surgery. And I dont mind so much that she didn't catch it, but actually told me my ovary was fine, when in fact it was choked off and dead.)
I'm not in a super hurry to get this baby out cause i'm not terribly sick of being pg, but it's weird I haven't had one sign of being ready. Still no contractions, mucus is intact, etc etc.

Well, the first one tends to be a bit stubborn sometimes. ;) I don't remember having any signs of going into labor on my own when I was pregnant with my first one, despite the massive amounts of walking and other "sure fire" ways to start labor that I was practicing. I was a week late when I was finally induced!
Hang in there, it'll happen! :)

I wanted to echo the well-wishes and the Mirena love. Not only did I save on three and a half years of pills, but I stopped having a period altogether and saved all the money I would have spent on the feminine products. Apparently it's a perfectly healthy side-effect that occurs in about 1/3 of users. And because the same doctor inserted it and removed it, he only billed me for an office visit, which is covered under my insurance.
