I'm another one who can't believe that 7 weeks has passed!

dimples!!!!
[post71] <---dies from cuteness.
Today Lucien had his Meningitis shots series started. Had the regular weigh in and check up. I wish it had gone better. My poor little dude has only gained an ounce in the past 3 weeks. My IUD has thrown a serious monkey wrench into his weight gain. Friday I am getting a prescrip. for a galactogogue called Domperidone. Hopefully that will sort out my supply issues. For now we get to supplement with formula. We have another checkup for him Friday morning, so hopefully he'll show some signs of improvement. Other than being hungry and needing to catch up a bit, he's doing well.
But for some nicer news.. It's Christmas picture time! Lucien met Santa last night, he was a good boy. The other photos are from our failed Christmas portrait attempt. At least the kid looked good *L*

Oooh, I only have one!
Lookit Lucien with Santa! He's so cute! Lucien, not Santa.
aw he looks like such a happy lil guy!
Mine were both PEANUTS. Never had dramatic weight gain. My 9 year old has more than caught up now but I remember being rather stressed initially with her due to the over load of comments about how little she was. By the time the 2nd came my skin had hardened. They all grow differently.
I know supply issues are stressful!

He is seriously is one of the happiest babies I've ever seen! So cute! And, I can't believe you got him to sit on Santa's lap AND smile. Impressive. He's so adorable!
He's really good about going to other people. I know that can all change but for now it's good *L* I have at least ONE photo with Santa now in his childhood where he'll be happy in it :D
And I love his smile too. He's always willing to flash you one no matter what. Instant mood lifter. We were talking after I got him settled after his shot, telling him I was sorry he had to get poked, and that the boobjuice wasn't filling him up enough and he just sorta sighed, smiled and snuggled into my neck. I nearly burst into tears because it was so sweet.
I've gotten used to people going on about how tiny he is for 12 weeks. I had a feeling he wasn't gaining as much as he should have been for this month. He's been so good for steady weight gain, and once I got that IUD put in my supply nose dived, I knew something was up. They weren't going to weigh him today and I was like we should do this, and sure enough. He'd been so cranky at night the past few weeks, if I would let him, he'd literally nurse all night in bed with me. Now I know why.
I speak only from my experience and definitely am not negating the impact of the IUD, just sharing because I remember worrying about the whole supply/demand thing often.:) It could be a growth spurt on top of the IUD too. I remember mine doing that nurse all night thing in week or so spurts at various points in their growing. I remember it being a killer too as it always seemed to happen right after we had settled into a nice rhythm. They also get amazingly efficient at nursing around this stage and I remember always feeling like there was no way they got enough.
I'm glad you got the prescription and I hope it kicks in nicely for you too.
i appreciate your insight and thoughts bear :) it really helps. i really have felt a bit pressured with BF'ing by my dad and his gf. Not on purpose, but I think I've placed high expectations on myself. She's a Lactation Consultant and that whole side of my family is now WEEE BOOBJUICE. I wish that they were closer so she could assist me more (they live in Michigan).
I also really want this relationship to keep going and with as little supplementing as I can get away with, wihtout affecting Lucien's health, so again, petty reasons.. i don't have to hear my MIL essentially say "I told you so" about exclusively breastfeeding and not giving Lucien pablum or formula. <--side note: kev was BF'd for about 2 weeks when she started feeding rice cereal and formula to him because he was "always hungry" he was a fairly good sized baby for 1977 (just shy of 10 pounds) (http://static.flickr.com/106/298518523_cb690c9e14_m.jpg)and apparently would eat 18 ounces before bedtime! -boggles-
i do think there has beena growth spurt in this month (he was due for one), combined with the IUD. I used to leak all over the place during the night and I hadn't this month at all, so it is most likely a double punch :\
I only have 2 bottles that he'll take. the drop in kind by playtex so i do have to make those as i go, but i'm probably going to do the tupperware thing full of mixed to use. whatever i have of EBM then topped up moisture wise with the water.i get about 1-2 ounces after a feed. i'm really freaked out about him not getting enough fluid with this and getting backed up! he should be ok if he gets the BM first and then the formula though right?
He's not really enamoured of the formula. The first few minutes he just looks at me like "ok, you're telling me this is food, so i'll believe you.. because you're momma and you for the most part don't lie to me (except about how many times i have to get in and out of my carseat!)", but then he'll tuck into it with no problem.
i'm really hoping i'm one of those women once they get on domperidone that just have their girls go wild in the milk production.

wow. there's a lot to, um, know. about boobjuice.
i have this crackpot fantasy that the baby will pop out with no complications and the breastfeeding will be bing bang boom all there no problems...
it's just not like that in real life, huh?
at any rate, your baby is SUPER cute. he looks like the happiest little toaster streudel i've ever seen. *mwah*
well up until the IUD breastfeeding has been a breeze! it still is really, i'm just not making enough at the mo :\ lucien has had a fantastic latch from the start, he's a super eager beaver to eat. i can't imagine what my supply would be like if we had a rough start and all that!
he's being extra sucky and cute right now because he's feeling a bit blah from the shot this am. he flashes me the biggest smile he can, then goes all doe eyed and it's INSTANT MELT and i cuddle him up.

Today I got him a FisherPrice Rainforest jumparoo. He's not fat enough to weigh it down so his feet touch -lol- If he wiggles hard enough he can get it bouncing.
I also got him Bear Coat version 2.0 GapKids still had a 3-6 available AND it was marked down to $11. I was pretty sad as his coat wasn't fitting well in the arms anymore, now? I'm happy :)

So adorable--both of you!
What sorts of things happen at a gymboree class?
http://www.gymboreeclasses.com/b2c/customer/home.jsp
Depending on the age group there are different activities.
At the Gymboree class for Lucien, we do activities with balls, toys and larger inflated gymnastics styled equipment to encourage them to crawl, be on their tummies, walking. We also do lots of songs (based usually on well known kiddie songs) in French & English (this is regional, the one i go to does French, the other in the city does only English), we have a parachute, bubbles. As the kiddies get older the activities change but are usually centered around music and play. They have all sorts of gymnastics equipment, slides, tunnels and that sort of thing.
They also have different classes at the centre like Baby Sign language, Music (no play just creative music with instruments and singing) Art, Fitness Fun, Yoga Fun, and then they have Family classes for all of those.
They also have "open Gym" which is basically when there are no classes you can go and use the equipment and toys etc.

holy crap he is the cutest thing! his hair is fantastic!
Lucien has offically been "out" as long as he was "in". I cannot even begin to tell you how boggled I am about how time has flown by me. The first few days in the hospital learning who this wonderous new creature was are slightly foggy. Memories only brought to the forefront by going through photographs from those early weeks. I avoid doing that however, because it inevitabley makes me cry.
Over the past 9 months, I've watched my son grow from the tiniest little Squeaker to a energetic StruggleMonkey. Some days I feel as if I can hardly keep up with him, I laugh when I remember how when he was 2 weeks old and I thought the same. If the me then only had any clue of what was ahead of her. I yearn for tomorrow as our babygate for the living room is being delivered!
Every day is a learning milestone for us all, but the past month has been a big one. He's been tackling solid foods, learning to crawl, he has his first tooth and his first words <i>(used mostly in context)</i>. Sitting unassisted, walking assisted, oh and of course, trying to pull himself up on everything. He's trying so hard to be Mr. Independant, but at the same time I find him clinging to me because he's in that stage of not wanting to be left alone. I will admit sometimes I wish he'd let go of my neck, but then I remind myself that this moment is fleeting and possibly tomorrow he will no longer want to hug me close snuggling in as much as he can because only Momma will do.
I find myself saddened by the fact that soon he will outgrow his co-sleeper. It's one of the first things we did that has made it this far. My breast feeding relationship with Lucien pretty much ended when I went back to work, I tried to keep my supply up but his little distracted self lost interest and weaned about a month ago. I thought nothing of it, a momentary twinge of
sadness here and there, some relief as I no longer had to pump, or take medication, drink tons of water. I could have a bit of myself back again, but now I'm wondering if I should have tried harder. I miss those quiet moments when it was just me and him snuggled up.
We lowered his crib this past Saturday because he was almost able to pull himself up in it. I've been having him do his solitary naps in there as he can get out of the co-sleeper if I'm not napping with him. Though most times I just cuddle him up into bed with me for those, take what I can get while I can. Nap transitions are just one more step to him sleeping on his own and I'll be frank it breaks my heart. I love having him nearby, peeking in on him just by opening one eye, hearing his soft breathing, sometimes his little giggles as he dreams about something quite funny.
Another weekend activity was clearing out his clothes that no longer fit him. For a boy his age, he's a lean long thing. He'd been fitting into his 3-6 clothes still for quite some time, however I had been noticing that his onsies were pulling low in the front and his pants were starting to look a bit capri like. I have boxed it all up, saving a few select pieces of clothing to put aside for memory's sake. Soon he'll also be too big for his swings, he can already sit up in the large one
which makes it stop swinging. The portable swing is more inclined so he has a harder time messing that one up. He's also outgrowing his jumparoo. Soon it won't hold any excitement for him as he'll be crawling efficiently and walking.
The past few months have been a relatively balanced combination of easy and not so easy. As I type this I find my patience being spread thin because he's overtired, crying himself into a fit because having a nap is no good. Everything we try to give him is met with get lost angry swat. We've had a few bouts of illness, a few bumps and bruises. That being said, it's not been all hardships and trials. The delight we get from his laughs and sound effects is amazing. Currently he makes one that sounds like a cross between a whooping crane in flight and the Predator, it's quite strange. He's always got a smile for you even when he's miserable. He gives us a sense of satisfaction when he can make complete strangers smile just by flashing them that mostly toothless grin. We figure if he can bring joy to someone else just by being wonderfully happy, then the world is just that tiny bit better. The pride we have when he figures out how to do something for himself is overwhelming. And then there is just drinking in the sight of him just being there. I never imagined that I could love as much as I do this kid. I honestly do not have enough words to describe what happens in my heart when I just stop and watch him. My breath catches, my hearbeat skips a beat and the world slows ever so slightly..

aaaaaaaw can't wait to snuggle with my wee tyke. For now I make do with my BF's baby boy who's a real sweetie and let's me snuggle with him for HOURS (I once held him for an entire hockey game... I was in baby heaven).
I feel great, and have since week 13. Before that wasn't too bad either, but had some CONSTANT mild nausea. So gross. Glad that's gone. But yea I feel really good! Thanks for asking :) I felt da baby for the first time yesterday! yippe!
awww yay for that first feeling! how far along are you?

16 weeks yesterday!
Lucien finished his first swim session today. We'll be hitting public swim for the next few months and then doing level 1 again in the fall for more practice.

I was working in the nursery and I heard him cough and I thought he was waking up. When I peeked in the bedroom this is how I found him, half in his co-sleeper, half onto my side of the bed.
I often find him this way in the early morning hours too, he doesn't disturb me getting up but I'll stir and find him half snuggled into my side. It really breaks my heart that he's slowly becoming a little boy and not a baby anymore, but it's those moments that remind that he still is my little guy no matter what.

Around this time one year ago, we were just snuggling into our bed after 22 hours of labour. You've brought me joy, amazement, fustration, a well of patience and most of all love over the past year.

hehe! Sauce face!
1 year!!! It flies doesn't it! Hard to believe.
Congrats on the milestone, mama!
I have cakeface too! He was quite uncertain what to do with the cake. He spent the first 10 minutes just poking at it with his finger. I had to feed him a piece before he was like OH HAI! TASTY!
Ha!!
My daughter did the same thing. I had to take icing and put it in her mouth and even then she wouldn't touch it so she opted for eating it face first. ;l

so how was the birthday party??
It went really great! All his buddies showed up, we had lots of good laughs and conversation. I only took about 7 pictures as I was way too busy chasing kids and making sure everyone was fed and happy. My mother in law took a bunch though. I have a bunch of cakeface photos from Tuesday still to put up. I've been slackign in the photosharing as my mom is here and I feel guilty spending my time on the computer doing photos instead of with her -lol-
OK some photo overload. I've just a backlog of photos to work through from the past month, but these are some of my faves from the past 2 weeks while my mom was visiting.

Oh hai! It's been a while
Lucien will be 16 months on Friday and I'm fearing his vocabulary level. He's well over a hundred words that he can use in context that are clear as a bell when he says them. I'm not sure what has lead to this but it's quite mind boggling. Other than that, he's exceptionally clever, very curious about what's around him, he's about 32" tall, not sure about the weight.. maybe 23 pounds or so. Here are some pics from the past little while.

Updates updates!
Second birthday is rapidly approaching. It's skurry, we're torn between a firetruck theme or an animals on the farm theme. I've politely suggested at this point, animals riding in firetrucks on the farm.. but i'm just feeling stressed between planning a month ahead of time combined with the daily stuff going on -lol-
Caution: Bathroom talk ahead!
Back at the end of Feb we noticed Lucien was making the motions (telling us he'd pooped or grabbing the front of his diaper and saying wet) of wanting to be on the potty to do his business. So we set up a potty in the bathroom and everytime he was in there he would lift the lid, sit on it etc, clothed or naked. We practiced a routine every time he did it; he'd sit, get up & close the lid, then wash hands.
He's been for the past month or so being really good about telling us when he's gone to the bathroom. Not really sure when but it was over last weekend, he started to ask for a diaper change (nothing new, he'd ask for it if he was really wet or had pooped), so I took him upstairs to change him. Nothing there, diaper was dry, so I asked him if he needed to use the potty instead, and he said yep with a head nod (which means yes in Lucien's world. No head nod? Doesn't actually mean yes no matter what he said-lol-). So we marched into the bathroom, he lifted the lid, sat and did his business probably within about a minute or so of sitting down.
Since then, during our "at home" time, we've only missed about 2 pees a day. Today was a VERY busy day, lots of running around, he drank a lot and was very upset that his diaper was full most of the morning (even with 3-4 diaper changes). This afternoon we went shopping and he pitched a fit half way through saying he needed to have a diaper change and of course when we got to the bathroom, diaper was dry, and attempting to sit on the potty was a failure. So diaper went back on, we finished shopping and dinner and then came home. Kev took him up right away to use the potty(dry diaper!) and he probably did all of his urine passing for the 3-4 hours we were at the mall within 30 seconds of sitting down. Not only that, but he also had his first poop on the potty.
Lucien is EXTREMELY excited about all of this. We make a big fuss, and I'm in the process of setting up a sticker chart for him. He thinks it's pretty neat what he can do. I have been watching him when he's on the thrown for facial expressions etc, so that I can keep closer tabs on him when he's NOT in the bathroom. He's been practicing yesterday and tonight, starting/stopping/starting his urine stream; you can tell on his face he's trying to figure out how it all feels to him. When he asks for a diaper change we're gently redirecting him to ask to use the potty. I'm pretty excited as well. I don't think we're close to being diaper free, but we're definately close to changing less and less.
and a picture
Pretending he's a CHIPmunk (emphasis strongly on the CHIP in the way he says it-lol-)

Look at him go! :)
Finally got his hair cut. Several months ago, I decided to take him to this "wonderful" place here in Ottawa that tailors to kids. It's like ADD Carnival land for getting your hairs snipped. All the chairs are those rides that you feed money too but without the movement, there's TVs with movies on, music, each kid gets 2 people to do the haircut; one to cut, one to entertain. Yeah well, it would be MY kid that sat there and screamed like the woman was stabbing him repeatedly. She was pretty rude all around and not good with kids (funny considering where she worked), so by the end of it, Lucien was just absolutely terrified of anything and everything haircut related.
We've been working on him, showing him that it's fun and doesn't hurt. Taking him to salons when we pass them, to show him people getting trims and the sort. We've had a couple of really nice people take the time to tell him what they were doing and how it's ok, it doesn't hurt (including the people getting the haircut).
Well, my dad is getting married next weekend and kiddo's party is today, he NEEDED a haircut. So I figured, ok cheapo place, get the clippers and see what happens. Didn't even want to deal with scissors. So we got there, plopped him up in the chair, he was HIGHLY interested in the guy next to him getting his hair cut. Lady got the clippers with the #4 guard on,wrapped the apron around Lucien and started cutting.
He just sat there watching. Looooooooooots of praise from everyone telling him how awesome he was being. He only got a little irritated at the end when she was trimming around his ears, but she was fast and it was done before he could really get upset about it.
He looks 4 now -sneeefles-

He was amazing! They do 2 weeks of integration where you go for an hour and over the course of the 4 sessions you leave earlier and earlier. I figured I wouldn't have a problem leaving as he's SO excited for "TIME FOR SCHOOOOOL!" as he puts it -lol- We went today and I left after 30 minutes; I don't even think he noticed I was gone -lol- So his teacher told me before we left to just bring him at the normal class time (9am) and leave him for the full session because he was so good.

comeon. seriously? boy prodigy discovered!
yep. They were done at Doug and Rubes wedding :) He kept asking to take pictures so I put the strap around his neck and told him what button to push -lol- There was about 15 of his sippy cup *L* I found a really great and inexpensive camera that will hold up to toddler abuse. It has a flash, 5mp and it's sturdy/rugged. He's getting that for Christmas. I couldn't fathom paying the 50-60 for the cheapass FisherPrice cameras that have 1.3 megapixels and you can barely make out what is in the pictures when I could pick up the Bean for the same price.
http://www.arguscamera.com/products/cameras/bean5.html it's $60 at Target. I'm thinking of getting one for myself too *L*
http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=argus%20bean&w=all&m=tags <-- the camera Sprout is the smaller of the two available. I'll be getting the bigger one for Lucien
