question about "ignore"

so question: if you have someone on ignore, is the only benefit "user is on your ignore list" or is there still the blessed benefit for them not being able to post in your thread. I thought the latter was the case, but it's failed me a few times. Please advise bitchin admins!

I know it used to be the case that ignored people couldn't post in your threads, but I *think* we lost that capability with a later software update.
