Hollywood stars nominated for gay awards

• Johnny Depp and Robert Downey Jr are among a host of stars nominated for the first Gay and Lesbian Outfest Screen Idol Awards to be held in California. The organisers of the event have nominated Depp and co-star Javier Bardem for their roles in Before Night Falls, a film about gay poet and novelist, Reinaldo Arenas, Robert Downey Jr for his role as Terry Crabtree in Wonder Boys and Stuart Wells for Billy Elliot. Actresses Ellen DeGeneres, Chloe Sevigny and Vanessa Redgrave were nominated for If These Walls Could Talk 2, Julianna Margulies for What's Cooking and Maria Schrader for Aimee & Jaguar. Winners will be selected by a national vote online which will run from today until 15 April and the results will be declared on 20 April.
