The order in the middle may be a little off, but I'm pretty sure this is accurate. It was a great show! The "new song was cool and eerie. She said she had just written it a couple of days ago so they didn't really know it. The
upright bass wasn't working so she said, "I'll do a poem while it's being fixed." She then did the Slant. Also, she fucked up the lyrics at the beginning of tis of thee, and said something like, " I play these chords and try to sing, but then I get to thinking about that asshole in the White House..." she then went on to bash Bush and the drug war.

She was very talkative and said Knoxville reminded her of Buffalo, with its abandoned feeling. She dedicated Subdivision to us.

She looked beautiful too. She had her dreds pulled back and had a pretty green and pink type of head rag on. Very Erykah Badu.

Someone who grabbed the setlist posted this (in case you want to know the name of the new song):

oh my my

encore: shameless

I also know someone who recorded it on MD. I just hope it came out all right. Personally, I hope she doesn't start off with The Diner in Athens, GA, but she looks to be starting with that or Shy lately. I wish she'd mix things up a bit more.

So would I, but it's the first time she's recorded a show and it'll take a little while before she figures out how to clean it and transfer it to CD. Plus she's recording a couple other gigs (including the Athens one tomorrow) and won't get a chance to do anything until she gets back to Alabama. I'll be meeting her for the first time tomorrow. :)

I want to hear more about this NEW song! If it was written a couple days ago--that means it was written in MEMPHIS!!!!!! Do you remember if she said anything about the Civil Rights Museum (again)? Maybe it had something to do with that experience (the new song). Maybe you can post some lyrics or ANYTHING????

I definitely wish I could have driven to Knoxville to see the show. (I had $$$ Elton John/Billy Joel tickets the same night). I would have loved to see my dear friend SARAH (and a certain crew member).

I'm glad she played SWAN DIVE--it's one of Sarah's favorite songs.
