View Full Version : Favourite album poll
Black Velvet

Okay, this is my first attempt at posting a poll, so if it's a disaster don't kick me. As it's the early days of this forum, I thought a fave album poll could be good...
For me... it simply has to be Never For Ever. So creative, so inspired, and so uninhibited... such definitive, gorgeous, eccentric, fantastic Kate. For me, this album IS Kate more than any of the others. Of course I love them too, but here, more than at any other time, she's that slightly mad great aunt figure that lives in a strange little village, keeps too many animals, makes her own wine and plays her piano right into the early hours...

Black Velvet > I agree with you 100%, but I had to vote for The Dreaming.
It was Kate's first time producing and she just let loose! She really jumped off a cliff with this album and experimented with different instruments, and especially played around with her voice. I can still listen to The Dreaming 19 years later and still make discoveries. Pure Brilliance!

I think mine would also be 'The Dreaming', an astonishing record, it truly changed my lfie the first time I heard it. It's very difficult to select one since they all reflect very precise moments of my life...but I think 'The Dreaming' is the one I always turn to the most:)

i chose The Dreaming, but i don't like to be one of those people who always says "i liked her early stuff"...
i am ALL for change, and i love to watch her grow. i just listen to The Dreaming most often.

Tough decision, but I'd definitely have to go with Hounds of Love. That album takes me on such a long and magical journey. Well, all of Kate's albums take me on a journey, but HoL just has this enthralling and uplifting atmosphere to it. If I were to rank Kate's albums in order of preference, it would be:
1.) Hounds of Love
2.) The Dreaming
3.) Never for Ever
4.) The Kick Inside
5.) The Sensual World
(don't have Lionheart or The Red Shoes yet)

Out of the albums I've heard to date, The Dreaming (albeit, with HOL a close second).

In this order, folks...
1. Never For Ever - the brilliant, the eclectic, the oooh, so wonderful!
2. Hounds of Love
3. The Dreaming - I was listening to Night of the Swallow yesterday, and I have to give this more credit that what used to be #3, in fact, this is starting to creep up on Hounds...
4. The Red Shoes
5. The Kick Inside
6. Lionheart
7. The Whole Story
8. The Sensual World - pfft, I like maybe 4 songs on it, the rest suck

I vote for "hounds of love". This album is something! It balances wonderfully all of kate's aspects .
1. Her ability to write catchy tunes (Cloudbusting, RUTH, big sky)
2. Her daring experimental side (from the bizarre Waking the Witch, to the mostly backward Watching You Without Me)
3. Her depth of thought and emotion (every song).
At her other albums one aspect of her was dominating - It doesn't mean that they were bad - they were heaven, but not as balanced as HoL.
"The Dreaming" was lacking on the catchy tunes and positive emotion level - it is a hard album! "The Red Shoes" is too catchy for my taste to be number one, etc. etc.
Only on HoL she produced a consistent balanced album - as we can see from songs such as "The morning fog", "RUTH" , "Watching you without me", "HOL", "Jig of life" and more.
wow, it isn't easy for me to write so much in english...

Poor old Lionheart... no votes. A pretty over-looked album generally, but for me it's preferable to The Kick Inside.

Call me a sentimentalist, but I reckon Kate's 1st offering is one of her best! Full of soaring vocals, beautifully lilting, tender and oh so wonderfully syrupy. Sure, the others are great too, but let's not forget this timeless classic - pure musical elysium!!
I hate to do this... :( :D :e . I mean, they R all great. There is not one album that I hate. But I have to admit that I don't play "The Kick Inside" a lot. "Lionheart" is more in me cd player.

It's always HOL and The Dreaming head to head... I don't really understand the Dreaming hat much.. btu some of her BEST songs are on it... Night of the Swallow for one is absolutley BRILLIANT!
Still HOL IS her best in so many ways... it's fact not opinion! *lol* heh heh heh :e

::LOL:: I could not have said it better myself Nike! It was my first Kate album so it will always remain my fave. The Dreaming is a close second with the added comment that ALL of her albums are incredibly beautiful in their own unique way...I like what was said about Never For Ever by Black Velvet and TKI by PastaMission :)

*boosting yet again!*
Here I come for my third visit, 'cos my mind is constantly in a state of flux about which one I like most.
After recently buying TD, it's grown on me to such an extent that I'm now tempted to place it on the highest pedestal... above HoL maybe. *shock horror*
Still not sure, though... so I may return for another go at a later date... especially considering I've got another three albums to get hold of.
My Kate hall of fame looks like this at the moment...
1: The Dreaming
2: Hounds of Love
3: Never For Ever
4: The Kick Inside
...but they're always jostling for position. I could easily switch them all round in any order. So what was the point of posting them in the first place, you dolt? Aaarrgghh... I'm so bloody indecisive!

Pasta Mission > that's what my 'hall of fame' looks like on most days, plus the other 3 somewhere at the bottom. It will be interesting once you've listened to the other 3 if any of them sneak up to the top.

Well looks like Hounds has won this one hands (paws) down!
In a way, she deserves it. I mean, it's really an amazing album. But 2 me, all Kate Bush albums R, so in a way I hate it to choose like this... :( :)

It HAS to be Hounds for me.
That album is just so classic and timeless. And the production seems so effortless . . .she`d mastered the trick by then of making the complex seem very very simple.
No contest.
The Dreaming would run a close second though. :)

The results are fascinating, I knew Hounds was popular but...
