Enraged singer threatens to sue
Madonna is threatening to take a New York-based photographer to court. His crime? Selling a nude photo of her to a company that has used it to promote its condoms. According to America's New York magazine, a pharmaceutical company in Europe has bought the rights to use nude photos of the singer on its safe-sex products. Already hot items in Europe and Japan, about 50,000 of the Madonna condoms are making their way to the United States. The product recently went on sale at Condomania in New York. A saleswoman at the shop says, 'We had them in, but they sold out fast. We expect to be getting more.' The naked shots were taken by photographer Martin Schreiber in 1979, when Madonna was a struggling young artist taking odd jobs to make a quick buck. The photos were first sold to Playboy magazine in 1985, after Madonna's career had skyrocketed with hits like Holiday. The singer had no problem with Playboy using the images at the time and admitted she signed a standard photographer's release. But she's now said to be furious that Schreiber has licensed them for condoms. A representative for Madonna's US licenser says: 'They're an unauthorised product, and we're considering legal action. They're not official.'
