there IS only one baby
due date remains the same: november 3
baby is currently approximately 2 lb 8 oz,
which is normal for 27 weeks
we saw the skull and the spine and hands and feet and heart
we saw the baby sucking its thumb
sean thinks he noticed the gender, but nothing's official.
i'll post pictures tomorrow.
it made me SO excited. i LOVE ultrasound day!
i've had a big smile on my face ever since we left the hospital. :)

My cousin's birthday is November 3rd. That would be a nice day for your little 'un to come out and greet the world. :)

wow! That's so cool...so are you going to keep the gender thing a mystery or do you want to know right away....some couples I noticed like to be surprised while others like to plan things ahead and do early baby shopping....( if you just saw how the women in my family are....;) )
I am in new baby mode too...I might get a new baby boy cousin....
my mom's b-day is on the 4th....I wanted to mention....(its also P-Diddy's/Puffy's) ewww

hehehe it was SO cool!
papa's birthday is november 2nd... mine is on the 19th... so anytime in there would be good. :)
i expect this will be our only ultrasound, so technically the gender *is* a mystery... :) we're the type that like surprises. newborn clothing is gender neutral, so i'm not too worried about "pre" shopping for the baby...
i mean, i'm not decorating a friggin' nursery, like most people do... putting up matching wallpaper and baby bedding, and blahblahblah. :)
so hey, sean is taking digital pictures... so the high quality scans come in tomorrow, but we'll have pics up tonight!

Congradulations! The pics are so adorable. I am due on Nov. 20th and I had my ultrasound already. Do your doc's just wait longer? I am one who likes to know the gender and since they did mine at 21 weeks we can't tell at all. I get another one though at 28 weeks so I am hoping that we can find out then.
Ultrasounds are sooo cool!

I'm so glad that everything seems to be going well.
That first scan is the only ultrasound I've ever seen where I can actually see the baby. Very obvious. Usually I'm like "and you can tell it's a boy *where*? It doesn't even look human!"
Cute :)

I noticed you didn't complain about a full bladder. Don't they make you drink so much water that you have to piss like a racehorse? I still have and cherish my babies' ultrasound pics, but my memories of the three times I had them are marred by the unspeakable torture of having to hold in all that water. It was unbearable!

thanks so much everyone for your warm and kind words.
cassiopei - nope, they probably all do ultrasounds at the same time. i only saw a doctor for the first time a few weeks ago. i get to meet my obstetrician on the 16th. i was... avoiding things like healthcare for a while there.
silverteardrop, ultrasounds are very weird, they don't work how you expect them to, a lot of the skull shots they take are cross sections, for instance, so what you see is a little circle... not a baby shape in any way... the first thing that's easy to recognize is the spine, and the ribcage... etc... it is *quite* hard for them to get a recognizable image... the technician was really great, a total sweetheart... and i agree, he did a really great job in taking some shots that are easy to recognize. :)
st. theresa, the obs sheet said, no voiding bladder for 4 hours. i was like, "bullshit!" because i knew from experience... both my ultrasounds with ysobel i followed directions to the letter, only to have the lab tech say "oh your bladder is too full. here, take this styrofoam cup to the washroom and fill it to *here* only," drawing a line. i was always like, "WTF? they're telling a PREGNANT woman to stop peeing at a certain time? brutal!"
...
so this time i got smart. i ignored their directions entirely, avoided peeing for the last hour and a half, and drank a couple bottles of water on the walk to the hospital. it was perfect! i didn't have to go through that horrible experience of a half-pee. woohoo!

Wow those are spectacular! The one with the feet, is that his/hers facial features I see?
My cousin just had her ultra sound, and I have to say that her pictures didn't come out as defined as yours.
Boy or girl, what a great age for Ysobel to have a sibling.

Hey, thanks for the ultrasound explanation. You'd think having three younger siblings and having seen a ton of them, that someone would have explained it. Well, they didn't. It was always. "I'm not seeing a nose, or a foot, or anything!" :t Makes perfect sense too, from a scientific standpoint.
Good wishes for the little one :)

Babies are absolutely wonderful. I took one look at the first picture of the ultrasound and let out a big "AWWW!" when I saw it. TOO cute!

OMG, I'm with you!!!! I've seen plenty of ultrasound pics and stuff (mostly on tv I'll admit) and I've never once been able to make anything out of them but grey, white and black swirls and blurs. I always felt completely stupid.....but now I know I'm not alone!
Do you hafta take a class or something to be able to see???? :f

It doesn't look like the baby is sucking it's thumb to me. :t It just looks like it's hand is up by it's mouth.
