I want a CD writer so I can copy CD tracks and make fabulous compilation CDs for myself and friends. Because it's cool. Someone has mentioned to me that I have to be sure to get the right kind as some only write computer files as opposed to audio playback dealies. This might be bollocks, I don't know, but all the same, what sort of thing should I look for?

I'd also like to avoid getting one which relies on being wired to a PC as mine is a tad grouchy at the moment and I can't be arsed to try and fix it.

Cheers!

As far as I know all CD burners can write music files onto CDs from the computer, not just computer only files.

I think there was one by Sony which could just copy music CDs to make your own compilations and it didn't require to be hooked up to a PC because it was a system by itself (complete with Radio and tape deck).

a burner shouldn't care what type of data is being sent to it....it's just a laser making etchings....it's your burning software that would decide what types it can and can't...the only way it couldn't...is if it didn't recognize the file type...but even in that case i doubt it...

but..if you gonna buy one...i'd get either a hp, creative, or sony....those are all i sell..because they seem to be the most reliable ..the creative being the most reliable...
