Party planning Potter protest
Staff report

The ministry of The Jesus Party will host an Anti-Harry Potter Conference in the theatre room at the Ramada Inn at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14.

The Rev. Douglas Taylor, the ministry’s director, extended an open invitation to concerned parents, school board members, teachers, librarians, bookstore owners, clergy and anyone who may have opposing views concerning the Harry Potter phenomenon.

The Jesus Party held a book-cutting in Kennedy Park last November on the eve of the “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” movie debut. Taylor thought that it would be appropriate to once again rise to the occasion and hold a sequel to his Potter protest.

This week’s anti-Potter event will take place on the eve of the release of “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.” A video produced by Jeremiah Films called “Harry Potter: Witchcraft Repackaged” will be shown on a giant screen.

In the video, best-selling authors Robert S. McGee and Caryl Matrisciana answer questions and draw parallels between Harry Potter and true witchcraft as practiced today, with actual interviews and footage of witches, their rituals and spells.

The conference will conclude with the cutting up of the “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” book.

“I have been branded by Potter fans as a chief muggle and I would feel bad if I didn’t live up to their expectations,” Taylor said in a prepared statement. A muggle is considered to be a boring, blinded and biased human who doesn’t believe in the world of witches or who despises it as evil.
