Has anyone read any of his works? I just finished reading Nine Stories and was amazed by them all. And of course, the classic, Catcher in the Rye, an amazing book. I read it a few years ago in school and will reread it very soon. Its great! | | | 02-04-2003, 09:51 AM | #2 | | i saved latin. Join Date: Feb 2000 Posts: 4,101 | yes! I loved Nine Stories. You should read his other books too. Franny and Zooey is great as well. JD Salinger is probably my favourite author ever! Oh, you like PJ Harvey right?? Wasn't it fun seeing the relations between songs on Is This Desire and Nine Stories?? xxJeni ps. I really like your sig from Teddy! | | | 02-04-2003, 12:15 PM | #3 | | is there trouble ahead... Join Date: Nov 2001 Posts: 589 | i just finished Franny and Zooey, but didn't really like it. I thought it was kind of pretentious, and the religious-ness was too much for me. i don't know maybe i am missing something, because i think he's a great writer - i just don't know what he was trying to get across in that book...help? i have nine stories out from the library now, and i think i will give it a try but...i dunno, i was just turned off by Franny and Zooey... oeter/jezebel - are the religious themes predominant in nine stories...? | | | 02-04-2003, 05:38 PM | #4 | | pan Join Date: Sep 2002 Posts: 1,143 | I've read Franny, not Zooey though. I will once I finish reading something else. There are religious themes in Nine Stories also. But I don't know if religious is the right word. In Teddy for example there's talk of life and death, which could be interpreted religiously. A Perfect Day for Bananafish wasn't religious (as I remember). I really enjoyed De Daumier-Smith's Blue Period! I didn't read the stories in the order the book has them. The first I read was Bananafish and the last Teddy (as they're placed in the book) but the others I mixed up! Read one of them, (I suggest one of the ones I mentioned) and you'll see how much you''ll be drawn into the others! | | | 02-05-2003, 02:12 PM | #5 | | Narc Join Date: Apr 2002 Posts: 7,513 | Nine Stories is great! I have also read Franny and Zoe, and the Catcher in the Rye. I think nine stories is my favorite though. | | | 02-07-2003, 03:55 AM | #6 | | Fiercest Calm Join Date: Jul 2001 Posts: 1,548 | I'm reading Catcher In The Rye right now. I'm at the part righjt after the prostitute and her pimp come in to the hotel to get her money. I just want to give Holden a big hug! But there's one thing I don't understand. Maybe it will be explained later, but what the heck does "Catcher In The Rye mean anyway? What does it refer to? Anyway, interested in the author's other books too. CITR is quite good, I think. ~saturn | | | 02-07-2003, 11:40 AM | #7 | | pan Join Date: Sep 2002 Posts: 1,143 | Quote: Originally posted by saturn I'm reading Catcher In The Rye right now. 've just today completed a 3500 word essay on 'The Catcher in the Rye.' I love the book, I do, but Jeeze am I tired of it right now. Not to mention I just finnished a performance of a play where the centrral character Teddy, was based on 'Teddy.' Only he saw a psychotic bear... It was a weird play and I'm overdosed. Wanna see my essay? andy __________________ < ) ( \ X 8====D | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | All times are GMT -4.
