what is the origin of the mexican hat dance song?

this is kind of a weird question, and i didn't really know where to post it. i need to know the origin of this song, though. i read on the internet that it was actually borrowed from a song from europe and is not original to mexico. this song is called the "Mexican Hat Dance" song, but it is also called "Jarabe Tapatio". Both of these names are used for the Mexican song, though. I am wanting to know if there is a known piece of music from Europe that it might have come from or borrowed some music from or something like that! Thanks!
