At the time I was really pissed off about this country. I still am, however you missed the part where i said i do vote. i do take part in protests. i write my local newspaper telling them my opinion. I didn't need to have the choices of "leave", "no seriously, why don't you move" or my personal favorite "if you don't like it leave or just kill yourself." I'm glad you voiced your opinions. but what the fuck did you want me to do? say "oh you are so right. yeah, I should shut the fuck up now and apperciate everything here." That's called caving in. That's called playing a fucking mind game, and frankly I'm not interested. and about my sig-can't you take a joke? peace, love, and anarchy SisterE __________________ American Grrl Posse Kathleen.Kat.Kim.Jennifer.Carrie | | | 07-09-2000, 05:12 AM | #2 | | @ newbie Join Date: Jul 2000 Posts: 31 | Quote: Originally posted by SisterErnestine misunderstood- i voiced an opinion. i said piece. but what more do you want? I looked through that thread you made referance to... and i respect your opinion about everything. i think wording it a little better and without the explitives would have made for a less violent encounter, but it doesnt matter. You voiced yor opinion loud and strong, and to some thats avery respectable quality. so think of it that way... as for your sig... i hear ya. | | | 07-09-2000, 05:15 AM | #3 | | Lock it up! Even if the majority of The Dent doesn't respect your opinion, I DO..and I've talked to others that do, as well..you're not alone..you are appreciated here, Sister. | | | 07-09-2000, 05:17 AM | #4 | | Hail to your vast hegemony Join Date: Mar 2000 Posts: 19,282 | <font color="#2B0080">Well I say its the ice cream babe... And as you know, I am in a long distance relationship and I understand some part of your loneliness. I fear that after my visit out there for two weeks is over, I'll come home lonelier than ever. It doesn't seem to matter how many other people you keep around, without him there you're still lonely and wanting. And as far as your thread goes, I say bravo to you. You may have worded things strongly, but I know I'm guilty of that too. Sometimes 'fuck' is the only thing that seems to fit how you're feeling. We can both be eloquent, but sometimes its all about wanting to yell FUCK and tear out your hair. I think most people got caught up in the tone and missed the specifics. After reading that you vote, you protest, etc., that you are in fact trying to change things, I don't see how anyone could be so rediculous as to say 'you don't like it, leave'. What if people had told the American Revolutionaries, that so many of that threads respondants idolize, to leave the colonies if they don't like English rule and they all did it? Well then there wouldn't be a Fourth of July holiday to make threads about in the first place. ~Jared | | | 07-09-2000, 05:22 AM | #5 | | Hail to your vast hegemony Join Date: Mar 2000 Posts: 19,282 | <font color="#2B0080">Oh... and I LOVE your sig! So many people around here can't take a joke, they are the ones missing out. There would be far fewer flame wars and heated debates if more people took the sticks out of their asses and accepted attemps at humor as just that. | | | 07-09-2000, 05:29 AM | #6 | | ARIZONA UBER ALLES!!!!! Join Date: Mar 2000 Posts: 7,078 | I was going to post this in the other topic you were referring to but I had to get offline last night. Just so you know, I wholeheartedly agree with you. I think that this country was founded on ideas that looked good on paper but in actuality, well, you know. People say there are other places worse. Yes, there are. You never said there weren't. But, we supposedly have all these rights that get trampled on because people won't demand that they be accessable. So many people are sheep, they follow, never question, and society/the institution/the governement (whatever you want to point the finger at) takes them away. I don't know how many people I know who have been persecuted to the point of murder, violence, burning their house/business down, etc. because of race, sexual preference, or because they aren't Christian and/or are Wiccan. I have lost jobs over the fact that I practice a pagan/wiccan religion. These things happen EVERY day. And just because they aren't ALL on the news doesn't mean they don't. Several things to point out-- In the UK, they seem to have more freedoms than we do, even if they aren't on paper. Not to mention that there is less crime. There ARE better places to go. The USA is NOT number one. We are number one at stiffling individuality, freedoms, dreams, etc. We are number one at pointing the finger elsewhere. You are SUPPOSED to be able to run your own business in this country but you're lucky if you can. Free Enterprise my ass. Microsoft will just swallow you up. OR AOL will. OR some other company. The US is a capitalist country run by greedy pigs. And if you don't fit into the equation, you are destroyed. I am embarrassed to be American. 90% of the world hates me because I am. And you know what, not everyone can leave. What about those who live with parents and are 16 years old. I'm sorry but they can't exactly "Get the hell out!" And some of us have to save up the money to do so cause don't you know, Money makes the world go round. ! Trust me, I'll get the hell out when I can. I completely understand Sister. Just ignore the idiots who were rude to you. It's cool if some of you love America. Just be nice. See-- Someone exercised their freedom of speech and what happened? They were told to kill themselves and told to get the hell out. See what America really is? And you LOVE people this country? Some Americans are so closed minded. Closed Mindedness will be the death of us. raven | | | 07-09-2000, 11:17 AM | #10 | | @pprentice Join Date: Apr 2000 Posts: 75 | free speech rocks! the world would be a pretty fucking boring place to be if we were all of the same mind and opinions. do what you like. it doesn't hurt me any! sometimes when people are super-sensitive about an issue, even stating a simple fact to them can seem like an attack. your opinions and thoughts are justified......you or me or anyone else should never be censored. as for the people who said that you should go and kill yourself.....please don't....lol | | | 07-09-2000, 01:56 PM | #11 | | i'll take a quiet life Join Date: Feb 2000 Posts: 1,293 | Carol, Can I just say that I completely and totally know how you feel w/ regards to the long-distance stuff? I'm counting down the days now, though... 10 more days until he is here in Oxford with me. But I think I would cheerfully be tortured by fire ants if I could have him here right now. There are times when you need a hug from someone who loves you and that's all there is to it. As for your American thread... well, I respectfully disagree with you but that's neither here nor there. From our talks on IM I know that you are an intelligent, senstive and all around kickass personality. I like the fact that your opinions are strong and unashamed. They don't have to be my opinions... life would be so boring if we all believed the same dogma, ya know? While experiencing the UK for the first time I have found that people are nothing but polite and interested in everything about America. They want to know all about where I come from and have NEVER given me the impression that we are hated. The UK has their own troubles up here, what with the IRA and Tony Blair's embarrassing escapades... they COULD spend their time looking down on America, but why? I love England and I'd live here in a heartbeat... but I would always be homesick for the USA. I'm proud of who I am and where I come from... I, too, want it to become a better place and acheive the goals it set for itself 224 years ago. In conclusion, SisterE rocks the house and everyone else betta recognize. | | | 07-09-2000, 02:37 PM | #12 | | 867-5309 Join Date: May 2000 Posts: 418 | Let me first say that I am in a long distance relationship as well, and I know all too well how lonely that can be. I cannot see my SO until December, and that just hurts, you know? As for the misunderstood thread, let me just say i haven't been this ashamed to be an American since the opening ceremony of the Atlanta Olympics [1]. There was a lot of ugliness in that thread that wasn't necessary. You took a lot of abuse that you shouldn't have been subjected to. And personally, the "love it or leave it" attitude is scary to me. Implies that things are good the way they are, adhere to the status quo, and if you don't like the way We operate, then leave. Change comes from people who are dissatisfied with the status quo and aren't content with things staying the same. Just because you are a citizen, does not mean you have to like all aspects of the country. I fully respect your opinion, and your right to have one. I just wish, as it sounds that you do, that this country did a better job of living up to its ideals. I know it's difficult, but try not to take all that ugliness to heart. Seems like you know what's right in your worldview. There will always be people who will react such ways to your ideas. More power to you. [1] Some of you may remember the behavior of many of the Americans in the audience when "enemy" countries marched their teams out. Lots of boo-ing and chants of 'U-S-A', like it was a WWF match of something. It was embarassing. | | | 07-09-2000, 02:41 PM | #13 | | mani@c Join Date: Feb 2000 Posts: 7,383 | Late at night when im alone, i realise im in a long distance relationship as well... and it hurts.
