Default Killer Queen comment

Queen - Killer Queen

"So many people try and write songs like this and fail. It's tricky to be tongue in cheek. Look at the arrangement-- it's airtight."*

if you've never heard this song, it's 1) awesome and 2) gotta obviously be inspiration for Mr. Zebra, as discussed in previous threads. just thought it was rad that she mentioned it in her list.

(i also love that Going to California is on there b/c it's been a favorite this semester)

I've always been instantly reminded of Killer Queen. You can actually sing it along to Mr. Zebra, and it fits into the structure well. My husband doesn't care for either Queen or Tori, but the moment he heard Zebra, he mentioned the fact that it was incredibly similar to Killer Queen:

Ratatouille Strychnine
Sometimes she's a friend of mine

Caviar and cigarettes
Well versed in etiquette

They're both songs that use unusual words for our delectation and amusement.

yes, WW, that part is really close

i had never heard KQ until a friend who loves queen and likes tori started talking about "that song that is basically Killer Queen" and i asked him to play it for me and i heard Mr. Zebra

She's a Killer Queen
Gunpowder, gelatine
Dynamite with a laser beam
Guaranteed to blow your mind
Anytime

and the whole idea about the woman poisoning the muffins.

i still don't own this song and haven't heard it in awhile. now it's stuck in my head. but since i haven't heard it in a while it's a combo of that and mr.z! ha ha

in other news, they served ratatouille in our cafeteria this week. (sans poison...or was it?)

Very interesting!

I don't know if I would have put this together on my own, but now that I've played them back to back, the similarity is unmistakable.

I like these little peeks into the "meanings" or origins of the songs. I know Tori comes off as a big flake in a lot of interviews, but I've always felt that it was by design.

I too thought of Killer Queen instantly when I first heard Mr. Zebra.

The "Drop of a hat" in KQ and "Figure it out" in MZ are a dead giveaway.

This intrigued me so much that I started working on a combo mix of the two songs. Will let you know how it turns out.

Yeah, once I heard someone say the two sounded alike I went and listened to Killer Queen and it's a dead giveaway.

It cracks me up that she says people try and fail at mimicking the song, but she went ahead and did it. I don't mean she screwed it up, but that she decided to give it a go.

Music

I thought some of you youngsters (bwahahahah) might like to see the lyrics to this song. It was on the Sheer Heart Attack album, released in 1974. I can imagine this music having quite an influence on Tori. It certainly did on me.

She keeps Möet et Chandon
in her pretty cabinet
'Let them eat cake' she says
Just like Marie Antoinette
A built-in remedy
for Khrushchev and Kennedy
And anytime an invitation
you can't decline

Caviar and cigarettes
well versed in etiquette
Extraordinarily nice

She's a killer queen
gunpowder gelatine
Dynamite with a laser beam
Guaranteed to blow your mind
Anytime.

Recommended at the price
Insatiable in appetite
wanna try?

To avoid complications
She never kept the same address
In conversation
she spoke just like a baroness
Met a man from China
went down to Geisha Minah
Then again incidentally
if you're that way inclined (she's a
killer queen)

Perfume came naturally from Paris (naturally)
For cars she couldn't care less
Fastidious and precise

She's a killer queen
gunpowder gelatine
Dynamite with a laser beam
Guaranteed to blow your mind
Anytime

Drop of a hat she's as willing as
playful as a pussy cat
Then momentarily out of action
Temporarily out of gas
To absolutely drive you wild, wild...
She's all out to get you

She's a killer queen
gunpowder gelatine
Dynamite with a lazer beam
Guaranteed to blow your mind
Anytime

Insatiable an appetite wanna try?

Wanna try?

Y'all should listen to it if you've never heard it. There was nothing quite like it at the time.

I downloaded this Queen song. It was alright. I've never heard anything else by Queen. Any reccomendations? His voice sounds unique, I've never heard anyone sing like him.
