Rolling Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory vs. Willy Wonka candy company ...

OK, the movie, "Will Wonka & The Chocolate Factory", with Gene Wilder was just on HBO. I know this movie is based on the book, "Charlie & The Chocolate Factory", by Roald Dahl, author of Matilda and James & The Giant Peach, too. However, there is also a candy company called Willy Wonka(maker of SweetTarts and Tarts-N-Tinies-does anyone remember those? they were great!), which is now owned or was always owned by Nestle. My question is what is the origin of this candy company? Did it come about after the popularity of the movie or was it always around, even before the book?

Also, I saw on this website, that during the Jim Jones incident in Guyana, the kids were forced to watch Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory to take their minds off of the adults drinking the poison(the purple juice or whatever it was called) around them. Of course, I think the kids later drank the poison, too. Not too sure.

Later,

Mark =)

I thought it was KoolAid, but I could be wrong...

I was watching Willy Wonka on HBO earlier as well. I love that movie!

I think that the whole Nestle candy company thing came about after the movie was made - but I'm not sure about that either.

I think it might have been Purple KoolAid ... like Grape Koolaid. What was the poison that was mixed in?

Whenever, I think about that incident, I think about some Stephen King book(maybe "The Talisman), where he keeps mentioning Jim Jones and the purple something.

I guess Nestle probably did just take the name after the movie came out to latch onto the marketing potential of the name.

Later,

Mark =)

p.s. I hope Tim Burton and Johnny Depp due an awesome job with the remake! It would have to be much darker, of course.
