Is there any possibility of a policy review on mp3 posting? There are so many billions of blogs posting music for download, and some message boards even openly sharing albums via YSI and zShare, I wonder if we might, y'know, get away with it.

I just think it'd be nice.

We can discuss it; I'm not really sure. We sort of...inherited the mp3 policy? It's certainly true you can download things these days without having to look particularly hard, but I'm not sure what the admin stance on that is. Or if we have an admin stance.

I know what he means. A lot of places do blog about music, and have the file up for a limited time only, and have disclaimers etc etc.

But I guess it really is an admin/martin decision isn't it? hmmm.

Sorry, Pete, the people who posted didn't want the posts to be public.

But it helped clarify a few things about how the mp3 rule has been inherited and where it came from originally and all that. And a few suggestions towards workarounds.

I'd love a youtube embed feature for the forum, to be honest. Another forum I'm on cleverly has it that you can only post videos in specific forums - which we could adapt for here, and just have them in the music forums / TMP or something so that threads don't get flooded with videos.

But honestly, we would need to have access to the server to be able to change any of that, I think. And that's out of the boundaries of what the supermods are able to do with this forum. Which is really frustrating, to be honest.

The youtube embed feature will be available in vBulletin 4.0, which I think will be released later this year.

But then again, Martin would have to upgrade the forum for that.
