In searching the internet for information on a rumoured Smashing Pumpkins tribute album (featuring PJ Harvey's version of "Tonight, Tonight"), I came across some sites that confirmed the information, and gave this tracklist:

However, with this I found that Johnny Marr reportedly denied there being a tribute album, claiming the rumour is "total nonsense".

well, i don't mean to burst your bubble, but i read about that when the rumour first started (sometime last year), and that was all it was, an ELABORATE rumour (geez, whoever made it up wrote a whole FAKE article with quotes from billy and dave gahan...it was totally believable too). i mean, if this was really gonna happen, given the facts that it began as a rumour at least 6 months ago and it would be an AWESOME lineup, this news would be all over the place. so, while i really wish it were true, i am 99% positive that it isn't.

hi everyone. i'm the webmaster of sirens rising (thanks for the compliment, lckynmbr).

like i think i mentioned on my site, the tribute is a rumour from way back in august. i have yet to find a site officially denying the rumour, except for a mention of johnny marr denying it at a cure website.

anyways, if it were true, wouldn't that be so awesome? yeah, it must be too good to be true.

That's okay Chrissytina, I'd rather know it's fake than be scouring Napster and every music news source for PJ Harvey doing Pumpkins covers.

Those are two of my favorite artists, though. Do they like each other? What other artists does Polly like?

i heard an official denial from an email my brother got from one of his synth-pop mailing lists (they first sent an email with the track list and later another one denying it). but, yes, it would be more than awesome. btw, your site is very beautiful.

Chambermaid - I have not heard polly say that she is a fan of the pumpkins, but it is possible. i really wish that tori and the pumpkins (er, just billy i mean) would do something together or that one of them would make a good comment about the other. but i guess this discussion would belong on the sp forum...

i heard about polly doing a tribute album for the pumpkins a while back on nme.com..i think she's really doing a song....it seemed reliable info..but who knows

I think that Flood has worked with Smashing Pumpkins. Other than that, I don't think there's a connection, and as far as I know she isn't a fan. Miss Harvey is a fan of Will Oldham, Dirty Three, and Giant Sand to name a few bands.
