It just doesn't sound that interesting to me. It sounds kind of generic to me, unlike stuff that I've heard from their 2 most recent albums (not including Amnesiac). Can anyone tell me what it is that they like about this song? | | | 06-01-2001, 01:58 AM | #2 | | | well if a song doesnt reach you it doesnt reach you but if you call it generic one more time i'm going to reach you (mwhahaha) i think the song musically just really is beautiful and powerful. but to me the song is about a relationship that seems fake. like it used to be real and now everything has just faded, became kind of plastic. but it sounds like even though its fake he doesnt want to leave, like it used to be the real thing maybe it can be that way again. we all hear songs differently but that's what fake plastic trees is to me | | | | 06-01-2001, 09:33 AM | #3 | | Kill Robok Join Date: Jun 2000 Posts: 7,943 | This is my favourite song by any band... I guess it could be perceived as quite a generic indie rock number, but the emotion behind it, in the lyrics and in the music is so raw, so pure, it's just compelling. The way it goes from acoustic strumming to big Greenwood guitar mash is amazing - especially live. So yeah. I adore this song. Hehe, seriously though, I just wanted to hear what the song meant to some people and what they thought was special about it. Perhaps I should look closer at the lyrics. | | | 06-01-2001, 09:36 PM | #6 | | a vessel for my thoughts Join Date: Oct 2000 Posts: 813 | i've never seen it as generic...it's a very beautiful song, but radiohead have many other brilliant songs that are just as beautiful.so, i'm not about to put it on a pedastal or anything but it is really, really lovely. um...yeah. | | | 06-01-2001, 09:39 PM | #7 | | Sugar is the Heart's food Join Date: Mar 2000 Posts: 558 | Personally, I love this song. To me it is about an illusion (sp?). Trying to find the real among the fake, maybe? I don't usually try to hard to interpret songs, just to enjoy them. Guess I didn't really help. | | | 06-02-2001, 04:06 AM | #8 | | god in the corner store Join Date: Jun 2000 Posts: 297 | I've never seen a shopping trolley look so becoming I like the irony of the 'fake plastic' most people would conclude if something is made from plastic that it's fake.. but to be made from fake plastic......... anyone it is by no means a favourite of mine on the bends but it doesn't fall short of anything either | | | 06-02-2001, 06:51 PM | #9 | | i saved latin. Join Date: Feb 2000 Posts: 4,101 | Um... I love this song. Have you seen the video for it? That helped my understand it a lot. Basically, Thom rolls around in a shopping cart through a gigantic store filled with clear, but different colored jars, aisles and aisles of them. He sees a lot of weird people who aren't very concerned with each other, but only with the jars. I guess my own interpretation is based a lot on the video and how Thom sometimes says "This is a song about going shopping". A song written for the world of mass marketing and mass consumption.- according to Greenplastic website. ok, I'm done jeni | | | 06-02-2001, 09:27 PM | #10 | | oh oh oh I want to change Join Date: Mar 2001 Posts: 326 | I personally like the floaty dream like quality of this song..... just a really great lil diddy. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | All times are GMT -4.
