Default Tori's UK singles chart performances are pretty good

I was just looking up something and saw that for a supposed album artist Tori has a very respectable singles sales chart run over here. I mean she's had 5 top 30 albums ( including 3 top 10 albums, 1 no.1 album) but these are her singles positions:

Silent All Tese Years: 51
China: 51
Winter: 25
Crucify:15
Silent All These Years ( re-issue): 26
Cornflake Girl: 4
Pretty Good Year: 7
Past The Mission: 31
God: 44
Caught A Lite Sneeze: 20
Talula: 22
Hey Jupiter: 20
Blue Skies ( with BT): 26
Professional Widow ( Armand Van Helden remix): 1
Spark: 16
Glory of the 80's: 46

yes she has always done reasonably well with what she released.

Glory of the 80s was midweek top 40 but fell down after being removed from most shops with the b side fiasco - and a lot of people returned their copies thinking they had the wrong cd in them - not realising they were all like that, which unwound the sales.

Other than that, only China and God did not do well. But God was the 4th single from a number 1 album and so most Tori fans already had the main track.

China was before Tori was known to anyone. Silent All these years was reissued by public demand for the song which tells you something.

Tori has also had consitent album success in the UK, even Boys for pele went straight to number 2, which wasnt a very commercial album . It was only behind Oasis who were at their height.

And TVAB made #22 , which was excellent , considering shops were charging up to £22.99 for it! (£19.99 in most shops)

Further to that, how well do the UK people think Tori will do with SLG

I think that the single could go top 10 because its easier to get a top 10 hit nowadays, sales atre often lower.

If promotion is done properly , I think the album will get a few weeks in the top 10 and then spent ages sitting in the top 40, coming back up for each single(if we get more than 1 than is!)

Female soloists are at a high this year. Dido has the best selling album and bother her and Nelly Furtado went straight to the top 10 off the back of 1 track. I think Tori can do the same given the right promotion. She seems to be getting it so far - theres plenty of UK news coverage at the mo.

I would love Tori to go top 10 but I have to say I doubt it. I think she lost a lot of fans who gave up on hoping for another girl and piano album after Little Earthquakes was followed by the more leftfield UTP and BFP. I feel she is seen as a bit of a " weird" artist these days in general and so her album position probably will continue to tail off. Personally I think she has gone from strength to strength.

if she had a top 10 single, it would be for one week and then drop dramatically. I always remember Pretty Good year was in at #7...a week later it was #27. It will only be bought by the main fanbase unless it is catchy so it will be really interesting to see what happens.

Though I think she could get a top 10 album, maybe #7 something like that. She managed this with FTCGH and there was barely any promotion for that.

*slavering at the thought of Tori on UK TV*

How many times has she appeared on British television? I'm curious to know 'cos I've never seen any appearances. In fact, I only know about Tori being on "Top of the Pops 2" sometime last year. She just doesn't get the coverage over here.

Default Say what?

Woah Clunky... what a wealth of info you have at your disposal. I did see the Jools Holland thing in '98 (that was my intro to Tori), so everything prior to that was obviously unknown to me. But I never knew about the "This Morning" thing - are we talking about the same prog here? With Richard and Judy? If so, that's amazing (as Carl Hooper would say). That's gotta be one of the last places I'd expect to find Tori. Truth really is stranger than fiction.

What amazes me is that choirgirl and venus got only one single each- I think Raspberry Swirl. Jackie's Strength or Concertina would have been top 20 hits if marketed properly.

And from SLG, is there any word about the UK SLG single? The reason I'm interested is that they usually are 2 CD sets with up to 3 b-sides, while US singles are one CD. They often have exclusive b-sides as well, and they are all imports here anyway...
