Although in 3rd grade the song had been released like 6 years prior, lol. I only got their Greatest Hits record. My favorite songs were "Cruel Summer" and "Robert De Niro's waiting." Yay, so just seeing if anyone else liked them. | | | 09-19-2001, 08:56 PM | #2 | | banned Join Date: Apr 2001 Posts: 2,150 | I liked Bananarama up until 1987, when Siobhan Fahey left the group. They were quite the prototype, and Siobhan wrote some damn good songs for them until they went SAW. Luckily, she is back in the studio and recording a new album, having just done a duet with Sinead O'connor called 'We're in recovery'! I can't wait! | | | 09-22-2001, 05:18 PM | #5 | | @ddict Join Date: Jan 2001 Posts: 514 | Hey they were the soundtrack to my kiddie school discos. It was around the time of all the Stock Aitken Waterman era in the UK when they became really successful with hits like Venus and Love In The First Degree. They had the same sound as Dead Or Alive, Hazell Dean and Mel and Kim at the time! | | | 09-22-2001, 05:31 PM | #6 | | @ newbie Join Date: Aug 2001 Posts: 16 | Everyone had the same sound in the SAW stable. Production line pop at its purest! I always have a soft spot for Bananarama as they were pioneers in their way (a sort of prototype All Saints) and did have their moments of pop genius (Robert De Niro's Waiting, Venus). Ah, they don't make them like that any more......... | | | 09-22-2001, 05:35 PM | #7 | | @ddict Join Date: Jan 2001 Posts: 514 | They spawned some other girl groups who were out for a laugh with passable singing, bad dancing but great pop tunes such as Strawberry Switchblade ( Since Yesterday, Let Her Go were their fifteen minutes of fame) and Fuzzbox ( International Rescue and Pink Sunshine were their big UK hits ) though I'm not sure if these went beyond the UK. | | | 09-22-2001, 06:45 PM | #8 | | banned Join Date: Apr 2001 Posts: 2,150 | Don't get me started on SAW. They stole so much of Dead Or Alive's sound and used it on crap like Kylie Minogue. It's quite upsetting to me. I FUCKING LOVE THE 80'S!!!! but i think my fav. girl group had to be the go-gos, and then probably the bangles. bananarama didn't even sing their own songs. does anyone remember when they did a version of 'waterloo'? llllllmao | | | 09-23-2001, 11:21 AM | #10 | | @ newbie Join Date: Aug 2001 Posts: 16 | Love the 80s too, much to the disgust of my wife who can't see the attraction in ABC and The Human League! I thought the Bananarama did co-write some of their songs (or were at least credited with it). Maybe before they went to SAW? I seem to remember an article where they went to great lengths to talk up their "artistic input". | | | 09-26-2001, 04:14 AM | #11 | | banned Join Date: Apr 2001 Posts: 2,150 | Speedkills - You are wrong. All the members of Bananarama co-wrote their songs with the production team of Swain & Jolley up until their switch over to SAW. I know for a fact that founding member Siobhan Fahey takes credit for at least co-writing all the songs and I know that she wrote one of their biggest hits, "Robert De Niro's Waiting", all by herself. Although they have writing credits on the "WOW!" album, I severely doubt they wrote anything on it, because Siobhan left shortly after because she hated the material the SAW machine was giving her to sing. Clever girl. The only weak song, in my opinion is "Dial F for Freedom" and I wish that the original four songs had been left on in its place... But at least Siobhan is back in the studio recording again! | | | 10-01-2001, 11:10 AM | #15 | | By the roots of my hair Join Date: Aug 2001 Posts: 181 | I think some people have heard the songs... I remember someone telling me that "What's it like to be so Wonderful?" sounded like a mixture of "Hello, turn your radio on" and "Was it something I said?". As for "Come and Get Me", "I don't envy you" and "I'll take anything"... I have heard no reports of them. Strangely enough, these seem to have successfully managed to keep themselves off the net... Oh, and I LOVE Excuse me John! What a great song!!! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | All times are GMT -4.
