Simsville cancelled?!

This afternoon, GameSpot learned from a reliable source at Maxis that SimsVille, the company's upcoming game that blends life simulation with city management, has been canceled. SimsVille aimed to take The Sims players out of their homes and give them the ability to explore their neighborhood, which, according to Maxis, is precisely what the company is also trying to do with Hot Date, the latest expansion pack for the successful The Sims series. The Sims: Hot Date will essentially let players leave their homes and hang out in a downtown area, where they can have dinner, go dancing, and perform other social activities.
SimsVille had been in development for well over two years, and the game seemed to be on track for its projected release date of January 2002. Maxis wouldn't comment on whether the cancellation came from within the company or from Electronic Arts, Maxis' parent company. The developers that worked on SimsVille are now working on The Sims Online and other projects.

I don't know about you guys but I was looking forward to another highly addictive Sims game. Two years and they just cancel it? They should just sell it to another developer...

I guess I'll just have to settle for "Hot Date", which sounds interesting enough anyhow.

There were just a few things I liked about "House Party"-the DJ set, the go-go cages and the campfire (if that was even part of house party-I think it was)

I'm looking forward even more to Hot Date now. Some of the things I've heard about the game, besides the ability to leave the house: You build your own downtown out of shops, clubs, bars, restaurants, and other entertainment for your sims, your sim can buy lingerie for another sim (hee hee I thought this one was cool!), and the prospect of actually having your sims DATE rather than inviting your neighbor over and then after a while getting married.

this sucks. but as long as 'renegade' or 'return to castle wolfstein'(sp?) gets cancelled i'll be alright.

I was never too terribly excited about it -- the screen shots I had seen didn't pique my interest. Still, it's really a shame ... it had a lot of potential!

WHEW! as long as Hot Date is still in the works, thats gonna fucking rock! and i agree, House Party was a gross disappointment

at least we still have hot date. i am really looking forward to that! hehe..i'll be absent from the forumz for like 3 months straight until i burn myself out on it. i tend to do that with the sims. play until i burn out..quit for awhile...play again until i burn out. but this one sounds great because you get to design your date...like the town or whatever to where you are going!
