You guys probably know about this already, but I wanted to share with you in case you didn't. It looks like a fascinating project... John http://www.billboard.com/billboard/d...ent_id=1080454 Dead Can Dance Live Again On Box Set Eclectic U.K. duo Dead Can Dance will be celebrated with the three-CD boxed set "Dead Can Dance 1981-1998," due Nov. 6 from 4AD/Rhino. The release includes three audio CDs featuring 47 career-spanning tracks, such as a 1980 session on the U.K. John Peel radio show and the group's previously unreleased final recording, "The Lotus Eaters." Also featured in the boxed set is a DVD of the previously released "Toward the Within" concert video. The film captures a 1994 concert in Santa Monica, Calif., and is bundled with rare promo videos for the songs "Frontier," "The Carnival Is Over," "The Host of the Seraphim," "American Dreaming," "The Protagonist," and "Yulunga (Spirit Dance)." Interviews with DCD principals Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry are also included. The collection is housed in a chipboard book that recalls packaging for 78 rpm records. A booklet with track-by-track commentary accompanies each disc. Dead Can Dance's final release, "Spiritchaser," debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top World Music Albums in 1996. Since then, Gerrard has moved on to score such films as "Heat," the forthcoming "Ali," and "Gladiator," for which she shared best original score honors with Hans Zimmer at the 2001 Golden Globe Awards. Perry issued "Eye of the Hunter," a 1999 solo album on 4AD. -- Jonathan Cohen, N.Y. | | | 10-17-2001, 04:29 AM | #2 | | mani@c Join Date: Feb 2000 Posts: 5,129 | Oooh yeah! Thanks for posting that, I remember someone (maybe Rach) praising the video.. I need to get something with a DVD.. maybe a Playstation if they get cheaper. I don't even have a VCR right now, and it would be nice if I could rent movies at home. Anyway, that looks really exciting! So Lisa's working on Ali? Dunno, I really really don't like Will Smith at all.. not a tiniest bit... but he's been predicted to get an Oscar nod for that film.. | | | 10-17-2001, 05:29 AM | #3 | | Magic and Loss Join Date: Feb 2000 Posts: 446 | oh, great! i love DCD! i wonder how much it will cost. I really will have to go check out more of their stuff. Can you tell me which are their best albums ? I'm really excited about the promo video for The Host of Seraphim, The Toward the Within Video, and the track by track commentary. | | | 10-19-2001, 07:44 AM | #8 | | mani@c Join Date: Feb 2000 Posts: 5,129 | Quote: Originally posted by rinkydink I had a Dead Can Dance album years ago, I think it was called Within the Realm of a Dying Sun or suchlike . . . .it was wonderful, I don`t know what happened to it ; I don`t have it now. The Serpent's Egg, Aion and Into The Labyrinth. I think Aion's best, it is very medieval-influenced and perfectly sequenced.. I also think that it is the most varied DCD album. Within the Realm... is more "classical".. and the final three songs (Cantara/Summoning of the Muse/Persephone) are just pure beauty put to music. The Serpent's Egg is the most boring IMO.. but it has the Host of Seraphim and Xavier, my favourite Brendan-vocaled track. If you love Lisa's voice, this album really showcases it in many songs. Into the Labyrinth is good, it has many middle eastern influences.. and the Brendan songs are very folky. | | | 10-19-2001, 08:44 AM | #9 | | there's a haunting here Join Date: Oct 2000 Posts: 28,213 | Quote: Originally posted by hummeri Well, I only have four: Within the Realm. My closest brush is through Lisa Gerrard's The Mirror Pool which I liked, although I found her voice quite difficult. Time for another listen methinks. | | | 10-21-2001, 07:01 AM | #12 | | mani@c Join Date: Feb 2000 Posts: 5,129 | Quote: Originally posted by KundaVega Kimmo send me your address...I am so sending you Toward the Within....it is so phenomenal that you just simply must have it! XOXOXO Love Rachel | Could you be any sweeter or more generous? But thanks, you don't have to go through that trouble, because the library here has it. I just have to reserve it, wait for a couple of weeks and pop it into the CD burner.. I just have forgotten to do it for this album! But I'll reserve it today, I promise! | | | 11-14-2001, 08:09 AM | #13 | | run Join Date: Jul 2001 Posts: 24,056 | Quote: Originally posted by hummeri I think Aion's best, it is very medieval-influenced and perfectly sequenced.. I just remembered it as this amazing album someone once gave me. So thanks, Kimmo, for clearing up the mystery and reuniting me with some long-lost music ! What a gorgeous album it is . . . . I think I will be checking out `Into the Labyrinth` next . . . . . Helen. | | | 11-15-2001, 06:57 AM | #14 | | mani@c Join Date: Feb 2000 Posts: 5,129 | Glad you boosted this, because I finally managed to get my copy of toward the within a month ago, but I've forgotten to tell that I love it! Almost all the songs are non-album ones, so it is like a new album by itself. I love Desert song, Oman, and all the "percussiony" songs in there.. I'm not too crazy about some of Brendan's folky moments, but he really shines on some of the tracks. Lisa, as always is just phenomenal. How can she sing like that all the time? | | | 11-16-2001, 04:28 AM | #15 | | run Join Date: Jul 2001 Posts: 24,056 | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | All times are GMT -4.
