Looking Around Well Gee Lois?

<b>I have been a privacy advocate and ACLU member for years. I have helped write the law (or correct the errors in distinguishing id theft from fraud on the internet) on "identity theft".
When the issue of the safety of US citizens over certain guaranteed freedoms is in debate, sorry I go with the latter. What good are these freedoms if the continual possibility of terrorism consistantly lingers in our everyday life? What kind of freedom is that?
Citizens living in fear is not freedom.

it was bad legislation...

there are more than enough laws on the books to handle all this nonsense without having to create more...

it was a knee-jerk reaction by opportunistic politicians taking advantage of a citizenry that is bordering on panic...

i guarantee that the government is going to abuse this law... they will be working overtime trying to create new definitions of terror and terrorists and terrorism so they can use this law to create a more invasive presence in our society and all the while telling us that now we will be "safer"...

the law they just passed was nothing but bullshit...

have a nice day....

Some do believe that the importation of illicit drugs are a form of terrorism. As the intent is to weaken our society. [I have yet to see a strung out doper as being a piller of the community]
As far as that being integrated into terrorism law, doubtful, but then again possible.
What sets terrorism apart from other crimes such as "hate crimes","drive-bys" & "mass murder", is the element "political objective" in the legal definition of a terrorist act.
Hell, the government has their nose sooo far up our asses as it is, how could it possibly get any worse?

you might be amazed at how many "pillars of the community" use illicit drugs... they may not be strung out, but they're using... in fact, i happen to know quite a few of the hypocrites...

the legislation just passed is about as stupid as having laws for "hate crimes"... wtf... if you murder someone, that's a hate crime... doesn't make a damn bit of difference whether the crime against the victim was motivated by racial prejudice/intolerance, sexual prejudice/intolerance, whatever....

murder is murder...

unfortuantely, you are probably right about the "long nose" of the government...

i agree with you about carnivore... it's just another thing that the government will abuse...

give the government an inch, they'll steal a mile...

and i also thought it was a lot of propaganda bullshit to name that new law shoved down everyone's throats the "patriot act"...

what an outrageous insult to true patriots...

i think i'm gonna go and get baked...

Check out the "Serious Side Forum". I posted the letter from my congressman regarding my concern over the FBI's potential abuse of Carnivore.
In regards to the other posts concerned about the drug issue. This is involves mass importation by foreign countries, not the local street junkie or pusher. :->

and you wonder why the Enron people went shred-happy? With code words for different financial agendas? it stinks of GW and his lackeys- he didn't want it to go Whitewater, not with an 85-90% approval rating. Enron gave a bunch of money to GW's campaign. And I bet you the CEO walks. Savings and loan scandal ring a bell? The Bush family motto: Speak simply and carry a large broom.

terrorism cannot be wiped out in a few years- it's an idea. It takes a long time, lifetimes, to kill an idea. How long did it take to prove the earth round, a heliocentric universe? acteria, not "spirits" making people ill? We gave those a-holes the means because we so value our freedom we want everyone else too as well. It's the scorpion and the alligator, it's human nature. We suck as a harmonius species.
